"I never found out why the universe was like that." Zelgadis to Kaito Ryu.
Zelgadis (ゼルガディス Zerugadisu), commonly referred to as the "Celestial Conqueror" (天の征服者 Ten no seifuku-sha) is the childhood friend of Kaito Ryu and the annihilator of multiple races, planets and universes. He is said to be one of the most powerful beings in existence. He is one of the only beings from Nopales who wasn't Saiyan, with him being half Core People and half-Saiyan.
He is best known as Kaito's rival and friend turned enemy.
Appearance[]
Being one of the only non-pure blooded Core People in existence, Zelgadis' parents moved to Nopales to live with in peace. This was due to them believing their child would not be safe if he lived on either Planet Vegeta or in the Supreme Kai's realm. This ended up with Zelgadis living a normal life, ripped free from any duties or worries. As a child, he was introduced wearing a black gi, a blue obi over his waist and black pants, normally running around barefoot.
In his early teens however, he wears a black gi with a golden shirt underneath, black pants and black boots with golden lining, which symbolises how much closer to royalty he becomes. This version of him is much more snarky and takes a disliking to those below him.
When he and Kaito Ryu finally re-meet, he wears a black robe with golden lining, black pants, matching black boots with golden lining, golden potara earrings, a white shirt and a golden necklace. After this, in the rest of his appearances he wears black, open robes with golden lining and sharp shoulder edges held down by a red obi, he also sports black pants and matching black boots. Later on he adds white armbands with golden lining, labelling this as "The Outfit Of The Celestial Conqueror."
He is shown to have the white hair of most Supreme Kai, alongside a slim, Saiyan-like build with pink eyes instead of the traditional black. His hair is normally styled with two bangs over his forehead and his hair spiking out in other directions.
Personality[]
As a child, Zelgadis was fun-loving and naive, persistently chasing after those who he believed were in danger, or supporting those who he believed to be nice people. It is because of this that he meets Kaito, who quickly befriends him. Later on, when they begin entering the middle of tweenhood, Zelgadis' personality begins to show signs of him becoming a bit narcissistic, with him being shown on multiple occasions to help someone and then smile at how "giving" he is.
However, when Kazuki and the Freiza Force destroyed Nopales, Zelgadis grew into a more serious person. He began taking his role as one of the strongest beings on Nopales more seriously, he began to take pride in his people, enjoying helping them restore what they once lost. Both him and Kaito went on to have multiple misadventures together, with him portraying a happy, hopeful personality during this time.
However, during these fateful years, the anger and frustration that had been building up inside Zelgadis began to slip out, with him snapping at multiple people. While he does apologize and is forgiven, one day he uses his Time Ring to go back in time and wipe out a desolate, wasteful planet. This gives him a feeling of happiness, but also feels bad. When he returns, he studies the planet he destroyed, finding out that it was a planet destroyed by it's former inhabitants, who left it after destroying its terrain until irreversible. After this, he begins destroying planets similar to it frequently, until he gets to the point where he destroys an entire universe. This gave him a wonderful feeling, which he then begins taking pride in.
When he first destroyed a universe, he felt himself become stronger and went straight to Freiza in order to attempt to destroy him, however he still lost. After this, he began destroying more frequently, telling himself that he had to become stronger, however deep down he knew he was just fuelling his lust for destruction. Eventually, he left Nopales entirely to focus on conquering and destroying other universes, leaving Kaito as its sole protector. During this time, he also begins talking in a much more formal tone, showcasing how high above others he believes himself to be.
When the two re-met, Zelgadis was in the middle of destroying a universe, when Kaito snuck up on him and revealed that he'd been looking for the Celestial Emperor for a while, but he hadn't known that it was him. With no other choice, the two friends fought against each other, as if they'd been enemies all their lives. They fought viciously, inflicting terrible battle wounds on each other, until finally Kaito fled and left Zelgadis alone. This ended in the destruction of the universe that Kaito had fought to protect.
On many later circumstances, Kaito and Zelgadis would fight, normally being Zelgadis wanting to destroy something and Kaito wanting to save it. This resulted in many high stakes battles, where the two would go all out, with Zelgadis even revealing his sacred Surging Dragon technique which his father had taught him. On one of these occasions, Kazuki joined the battle, deciding to use it to wipe out his little brother once and for all, this ended up in a 2 on 1 battle, with both Zelgadis and Kaito Ryu fighting against their former ally. This battle ended with Zelgadis losing his life to Kazuki's Crescent Blast Six Thousand.
Abilities[]
Pink Orb: An ability that portrays itself as energy trapped in pink orbs. When released/thrown in a direction, it will explode, normally dealing huge amounts of damage. The amount of damage changed depends on how much destruction is wanted. Zelgadis is shown to have used this move multiple times when destroying planets or universes.
Pink Lightning/Surging Dragon: This is an Energy Wave ability that presents itself as a pink lightning dragon, it acts similar to Galick Gun and Kamehameha, with it being a release of pent-up energy, the only difference being that it materializes itself as a dragon with a similar style to Shenron.
Relationship with Kaito Ryu[]
Despite Kaito Ryu and Zelgadis being best friends for a long time, their relationship never really focused on what they liked about each other. Instead, it mostly bordered on Zelgadis having a crazy idea and the two going out on an adventure to accomplish it. This also shone light on Kazuki's brotherly side, with Kazuki stopping to stop them, normally with a caring or pissed off smile on his face.
After Kazuki destroyed Nopales, Kaito's personality changed, with him becoming much more distant and stoic, or so Zelgadis thought. In reality it was only Kaito's facial expression that changed. He was still the same caring and compassionate boy that he'd known all his life. However, these thoughts led him to believe that he was becoming further isolated and when he saw how happy the Nopalese were, he decided he was no longer needed. This is why he left Nopales, leaving Kaito with the words, "I think that you will be fine here."
When the two re-meet Zelgadis is used to destroying worlds, becoming a sadistic character. He refers to his former friend as "Super-Saiyan Hybrid" showcasing that he no longer has any care for their relationship. He even mentions multiple times that he is "not the simple Zel" that Kaito used to know, and that he is Zelgadis, the Celestial Emperor.
Facts[]
- Zelgadis once mentioned that he had an older brother who died before he was born.
