Wolfe's Wings was a bandit gang operating in the Diablo Desert. It was led by Wolfe. Being the second-largest gang in the badlands, behind only the Night Snakes, the Wings operated over a large swath of territory. This is the gang that Yamcha joined in his early years of banditing, before he met Goku, Oolong, and Bulma, and it is from Wolfe that he learned the Wolf Fang Fist.
History[]
In Age 747, during the events of Chasing Oblivion, Junichi, Lychrel, and Yamcha ventured into the Diablo Desert. There, they hijacked a truck transporting saké for Masamune/Masamune. As they proceeded to become drunk, Wolfe and a detachment of his Wings appeared, confronting the trio. They demanded the saké. When Junichi refused, Wolfe killed him with a Wolf Fang Fist, leading Lychrel and Yamcha to quickly join his crew, lest the same fate befall them. Later, Yamcha was part of the detachment led by Sallow Saul. They went banditing, waiting for a plane hauling goods to shoot down.
However, they ended up shooting down the wrong plane, which was owned by the Night Snakes. Several of its leading members, including Jorack were killed in the crash. Saul and the crew knew they had messed up big time (basically causing a bandit war from their mistake), leading several of them to kill themselves in shame. Yamcha procured the Azure Dragon Sword from the wreckage, but did not tell Saul about it. The survivors returned to Wolfe's base and told him the bad news. He executed everyone except for Yamcha, who impressed him by gifting him the Azure Dragon Sword.
During this time, Wolfe sent a young girl named Ren to Yunwu in order to strengthen the alliance between the deputy mayor and Wolfe's Wings. Ren was later returned to Wolfe's hideout, as Yunwu wanted to use her to poison the man and replace him with someone more capable (Thoras, Wolfe's retired cook, was first on her list).
Another group, led by Silver Snead, went banditing later on. They eventually stumbled upon a group of Chàoxing Gon in their territory digging up barrels of zeni. Snead, Yamcha, and the rest fought and killed the men, taking the money for themselves. Unbeknownst to them, Koicharu Mazuchiru, the leader of the Chàoxing Gon, suspected that the Wings had done this, as the incident had taken place in their territory, and thus when Yunwu later enlisted the yakuza to help Wolfe's Wings against the Night Snakes, Mazuchiru's men planned on double-crossing the bandits.
Yunwu, the deputy mayor of South City, helped Wolfe forge an alliance with the Chàoxing Gon by sending a detachment of his troops to South City to kill King Furry's Captain of the Guard for the yakuza. That group consisted of Snead, Yamcha, Lychrel, Pacheko, and Rheems. While the mission was otherwise a success, Packeko blew himself up with Yunwu's faulty explosives, Lychrel was grievously wounded, and the other three were arrested by the police. Snead was able to get Yamcha and Rheems off the hook by taking credit for the bombing. Yunwu later freed him personally so that he would return Ren to her.
Later on, Mazuchiru captured Yamcha and Rheems. He took them to the Noh theater, then treated them to a sushi dinner prepared by his cook Jiro. Afterwards, he asked them to kill Wolfe for him, not explaining why. When Rheems refused, Mazuchiru slit his throat, forcing Yamcha to agree to do it. However, once outside the yakuza's base, the boy bolted, stealing a motorcycle and escaping into the traffic of South City. Jiro and several yakuza pursued him, but crashed in the chase, dying in the process.
While all of this was going on, Wolfe began taking out smaller bandit gangs in the Diablo Desert, for the Night Snakes, gearing up for war against the Wings, were allying themselves with every other crew in the badlands. He and his crew destroyed the Bulldogs, Warthogs, and One-eyed Jackalopes, though Ren was unexpectedly wounded in the destruction of the last group (this would later cause Yunwu to accelerate her plan to kill Wolfe by gifting him poisoned cigars). During the assault against the Warthogs, Remi Alphonso, Wolfe's cook, was killed. Wolfe then commanded Thoras to train Yamcha to be their new cook.
The Wings later staged a daring train heist, dressed up as Night Snakes to slander that gang's reputation. During the heist, Yamcha found and rescued Puar, resulting in the death of Daisey and the near-death of Rosey. The heist was overall a success, with only a few casualties taken in the struggle. The zeni was marked, however, so it was unusable. Wolfe burned it all and gave the bandits shots of saké for their trouble.
After Thoras reported that much of his poison had been stolen, Wolfe became paranoid that someone in his crew was a double-agent. He relocated himself and his most trusted elite bandits (including Yamcha, Snead, Doc, Rosey, and Olivia) to a new hideout. There, the elites continued banditing (even running into Master Shen at one point, resulting in the deaths of Bingo and Brady McGangeree as well as the maiming of Yamcha's leg).
It was not many days later that Rosey woke up, revealing to Wolfe that Puar had killed Daisey and that Yamcha had known that the entire time. Additionally, at that time, an assassin burst in through the window and attacked Wolfe with a grenade. However, the wily bandit managed to kick the grenade out the window, where it exploded harmlessly in midair. He then beat the man down, breaking his nose and teeth, before suffocating him. The Night Snakes had somehow found his secret hideout. In fact, it had been Doc who had acted as a double-agent for the Snakes, but Wolfe never learned of his treachery in Chasing Oblivion.
Then, Wolfe confronted Yamcha, leading the two to brawl their way out of the window all the way to the desert floor. Before either could land a killing blow, Snead alerted the bandit leader that the Night Snakes were approaching in hovercars on the horizon. He died soon after, due to him smoking so many of Yunwu's poisoned cigars.
Wolfe rallied his troops and then called for Thoras, lying in wait with the remaining Wings in Wolfe's main hideout, to attack the Night Snakes from behind, giving him coordinates to their location. Olivia demanded that Yamcha join them for the fight, even though Wolfe had recently disowned him, as they needed all the bodies they could get (the elite banidts were significantly outnumbered by the Night Snakes at this point). The boy had no choice, as she would have shot him had he refused.
Then the battle commenced, and it was a bloody affair. Most of Wolfe's elites were killed, and the situation looked hopeless as the Night Snakes encircled them and mowed them down until Thoras and his crew showed up. Surprised by this, the Night Snakes were unable to react properly and were annihilated, with every last one of them being killed.
Immediately after, Mazuchiru and a force of his Chàoxing Gon showed up. The man revealed that he knew Wolfe's crew had taken the buried money and killed his men. Then, he fired on Wolfe's crew, and a huge firefight ensued. Yamcha attempted to flee, but Wolfe found him and attacked him. The boy was only able to get away by shooting a flare into the man's beard.
Most of Wolfe's bandits were killed by the yakuza. Only twenty of his soldiers survived the firefight, not counting Rosey, who had not participated (instead remaining in Wolfe's secondary hideout until he recuperated). Several of them were wounded and not expected to survive. When Doc, who had just returned from Bonetown with medical supplies, told them that he had found Rosey there and that Rosey had gotten into a fight with a purple-haired woman, resulting in her shooting him, several of the surviving Wings were outraged. They wanted to go to Bonetown and settle the score. Wolfe advised them not to, but twelve of them, led by Javerres Mihn, did not listen and left anyways. They were killed by the Children of Chaos when they attempted a futile assault on Bonetown.
Of the eight remaining bandits under Wolfe's command, two died of their wounds that night. The remaining six - Doc, Thoras, Olivia, Sarmon, Kershew, and Phillippo - retreated towards South City with Wolfe, vowing to return when their gang had built up its numbers again.
Ren, not knowing that Wolfe was still alive, did not ever seek him out again. The same was true of Lychrel after she was released from the hospital.
Late in Age 747, the surviving Wings (Wolfe, Thoras, Olivia, Doc, Sarmon, Phillippo, and Kershew) traveled south to the Crimson Fingers, a remote island chain in the Red Sea. Thoras attempted to poison Wolfe while staying at Hosomaki, and Olivia ditched them there. The next day, the remaining Wings assaulted a cargo vessel manned by the New Red Ribbon Army and Captain Wheltin. Everyone sans Wolfe and Wheltin was killed in the conflict. Thus, from that moment until some months in the future, the Wings consisted of only Wolfe.
Many years later, after Yamcha had joined the Z Fighters, he returned to his old home, finding the place ransacked. There, he was confronted by Wolfe. The two reminisced for a short while, though the memories were bitter, not nostalgic for Yamcha. Wolfe asked the man to join his crew again, as the Wings were still alive and well, but Yamcha refused, instead deciding to leave the desert once more.
