Vestigia (ヴェスチギア, Vesuchigia), is a human who comes from Papaya Town. She joined the New Red Ribbon Army after transferring out of King Furry's royal guard at the age of 27. She was recruited by Oscalpano after Cardinal noted her impressive temperament and work ethic. She was transferred to the Crimson Fingers to monitor the Makyan presence in the region in Age 769. Within two years, she had risen to the rank of Senior Security Supervisor for the SAARO branch on Asazari. She is featured as a secondary character in Monkeyboy's First Vacation.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Vestigia is a woman of slightly below-average height and above-average weight. She is pale-skinned with a heaping helping of freckles on her face. She is vision-impaired, though she wears contacts more often than glasses. Her eyes are green. Vestigia has curly red hair that extends about six inches below her shoulders. Like all SAARO agents, she wears a black suit at all times when in public, often accompanied by black gloves and dark sunglasses.

Personality[]

Vestigia is a highly professional, disciplined individual. As Nhobusa's security advisor, she maintains a severe, vigilant operating style. She is the most dependable soldier under Nhobusa's command and perhaps his most capable (as it relates to her area of expertise). She is more level-headed than the other operatives as of Age 776, making her Nhobusa's closest advisor. She has higher empathy and people skills than anyone else in the organization. With that said, she has a tendency to become reckless when complacent, as seen in chapter 4 of Monkeyboy's First Vacation, when she passed out at the security control station after drinking too much beer when she should have been awake to monitor Ledas and Jia's planned executions. She proves her competency soon afterward by capturing Ryori before he could kill Nhobusa (not that he was likely to win that shootout, to be fair), showing her bounce-back nature.

History[]

Monkeyboy's First Vacation[]

In the third scene of chapter 1, on June 7, Age 776, Nhobusa, Vestigia, and Zeshmedinokov were monitoring the camera feeds at the Kedarake Observatory in Asazari (an island in the Crimson Fingers) when Chervil and his gang of Makyans arrived. Nhobusa reminded his soldiers that Chervil and his ilk were not their enemies and not to do anything rash. Chervil entered with a retinue of warriors, asking Nhobusa why he had been summoned. Nhobusa informed him that Ledas would soon be coming to the Crimson Fingers. He told Chervil that until Zesh finished the updated ki-restraining device, he'd have to face Ledas.

Chervil was unconcerned, believing himself superior to the boy. He demanded six times as many human prisoners for his tribe to feast on for the month, requiring some of them to be natives, not just tourists. Nhobusa promised him what he wished, saying that agents Morucan and Tresparson would meet Chervil at the island of Umihebiza tomorrow with the first batch. Chervil swore he'd kill Ledas. Nhobusa didn't want him to attack the boy as soon as he arrived, preferring that they ambushed him a few days into the trip to lull him into a false sense of security. The groups said their goodbyes, the Makyans leaving almost as swiftly as they had come.

In the third scene of chapter 2, on June 10, Age 776, Ledas and Ryori along with Mr. Ohano, Mrs. Ohano, Jia, and Shoekki, visited the Asazari Wildlife Preserve. On their way out, Jia and Ledas stopped by the government outpost. Inside, they approached the receptionist who was named Vestigia. Jia informed her Ledas had caught several skinchangers and was looking to collect a bounty. Ledas threw the capsule containing their bodies onto the floor, revealing the foul storage container. A whiff of death caught Vestigia, almost breaking her. She didn't know what to do, so she called her supervisor. Ledas was proud of himself, though he remembered that humans had been meeting with the skinchangers when he'd come upon them. He resolved to look into that further, as the Dragons of the Dawn had said the government was working with them.

In the first scene of chapter 3, on June 12, Age 776, Nhobusa, Vestigia, and Zeshmedinokov met with Chervil and a host of his minions. Chervil wanted to know why Nhobusa had summoned him. Nhobusa admitted that after his fight with Ledas in the Sepiche ruins, they needed to change strategies, or they'd lose badly. Chervil swore it had been an unlucky break, promising to kill Ledas in their next encounter. Nhobusa was concerned about his broken arm (Chervil claimed it was sprained).

Nhobusa informed him Zesh's ki-restraining device was almost complete. Once applied to the boy, Chervil would have no problem defeating him. He outlined their plan to abduct Ledas after he drunkenly partied at the Kurenai Natsumatsuri festival (if Rambutala needed to goad him to drink, he'd be there to do so). Afterward, they'd bring him to Kedarake where Chervil could have his way with the boy.

Chervil didn't understand why Nhobusa wouldn't kill the boy himself, but Nhobusa said that they couldn't be sure due to his durable skin and inhuman reflexes, which the ki-restraining device would not be able to limit. He told Chervil about their contingency plan to use a repurposed intercontinental ballistic missile to shoot him into the sun should all other paths prove fruitless. Chervil didn't want to hear it. He would end Ledas' life. Nhobusa told him to be back later that night. They'd have Ledas ready for him. He would give Chervil's gang a load of prisoners as a reward if they did this for him. Satisfied, Chervil whistled to his crew and they departed in a blur of light.

Once they were gone, Vestigia said she didn't trust them. Nhobusa reminded her they didn't need to trust the Makyans to utilize their power. He planned on destroying all of the aliens before this was over. He texted Jia that the plan was now in place. Zesh watched a podcast, laughing along, oblivious to the grave stakes at play. Nhobusa remained on guard, feeling anxious, knowing that their next actions would determine not only their fates but the fate of the entire world.

In the first scene of chapter 4, in the wee hours of June 13, Age 776, the New Red Ribbon Army boat containing Jia, Ledas, and Ryori (unbeknownst to Nhobusa and Rambutala) arrived at Asazari. The men took their prisoners into the outpost while Ryori hid underneath a tarp. He waited a while before following them in.

He found himself in a tunnel where a large metal door prevented him from entering. Thinking he was screwed, Ryori noticed a small booth to the left with monitors on inside (although the light was off). He snuck over, opening the door as quietly as he could. A woman was asleep in front of a wall of monitors showing camera feeds of the island. He spotted the men on the feed in the telescope observatory talking with another guy in a white lab coat, Jia and Ledas lying unconscious at their feet. He realized he was on Asazari, thinking it weird these guys were government operatives.

Before entering the outpost, he pried the woman's gun from its holster, careful not to wake her. He aimed the weapon at her, but he couldn't fire, recalling his traumatic experience of shooting and killing General Silver two years prior. He ran through the door, sparing her.

In the third scene, a few minutes later, Ryori reached the hallway outside of the telescope observatory. He watched quite a bit of the Ledas and Chervil fight before witnessing Zesh stuff the Saiyan in the intercontinental ballistic missile. Then, Nhobusa shot him off into space. He was numb. Rambutala dragged Jia down the hall. Ryori hid behind a stack of boxes. As they passed, Jia and Ryori's eyes met. He silently implored her to remain quiet with a finger over his lips. Terrorized though she was, she honored his request.

Ryori psyched himself up, waiting until Rambu had gone far enough away before peeling out from behind the boxes and shooting at the other men. Zesh fell over, taking a shot to the shoulder. Nhobusa ducked behind a crate, returning fire. Ryori charged forward courageously, reaching Zesh and snatching the remote from him. He ducked away before pressing the buttons, not knowing what any of them would do, hoping that something would come of that. Nhobusa fired at him. Ryori returned fire, though he knew he had only the singular magazine and was in dire straights.

He decided to go down swinging, springing out from behind the boxes, when a hand took him around the midsection, a second slamming across his mouth. The woman scolded him for stealing her gun, pinning him to the floor. She disarmed him with her superior strength as Nhobusa walked over. With the gun out of his possession, Ryori realized the end was near. He couldn't hold back the tears.

In the fourth scene, a few minutes later, Ledas awoke in the intercontinental ballistic missile. The ki-restraining device had kept him awake, burning his body. Without warning, it went dead, and in an instant, he regained all of his powers. He wondered if Jia had saved him. No time to second-guess. He blew up the missile, forming an energy bubble around himself to preserve the air. Locating Earth, he honed in on Jia's ki signature, racing back.

Crashing through the outpost's ceiling, he realized he could sense Ryori's life force as well, which unnerved him. Nhobusa was kneeling next to Zesh, who was lying on the ground wounded. Vestigia held Ryori. Ledas thrust out a barrier of ki around Ryori just before Nhobusa shot him. Ledas knew he didn't have much more in him. He was about to collapse from exhaustion. He tried his best to focus on the task at hand, reminding himself that his lover was in trouble. He wouldn't sleep before Ryori was saved.

Bullets bounced off the ki surrounding Ryori's body. Nhobusa didn't know what the hell was going on. He fired upon Ledas, the bullets dissolving against his aura. Ledas ripped the ki-restraining device off his head, throwing it before them. The guy on the floor implored the other man to flee, to try again another day. The woman agreed, offering to provide him cover. She cast Ryori aside, honing in on the more immediate threat. Ledas would make her pay for that. The man ran down the hall, abandoning his comrades. Ledas found that funny. He released a Homing Finger Beam that first hit Vestigia, then sliced through Zeshmedinokov, then speared itself through Nhobusa. He incinerated their bodies with mini Lightning Strikes.
