This page lists which official Dragon Ball media is canon to KidVegeta's universe.

Firstly, I consider the manga canon, as everyone must. Then, branching out to the anime, movies, OVAs, specials, video games, guide books, and other media, consistency is taken into account. Filler portions of the anime that contradict the manga are deemed to never have occurred. Similarly, movies that cannot be placed in the timeline without significant inconsistencies or errors (which is the vast majority of them) are deemed to have never occurred. New information in video games or guidebooks that contradicts logic or specific aspects of the Dragon Ball universe will be considered false information and not be heeded. I don't consider things canon or non-canon based on their quality. All that matters is whether they can fit into the main timeline or not.

The Daizenshuu is not an official source by any means, having not been written by Toriyama and having numerous contradictions within it. The power levels and information contained within them are often times not true (most apparent with Nappa's power level of 4000 being illogically too low and being contradicted by his fight against Goku in both the manga and the anime) and not heeded. Similarly, the Dragon Ball Wiki often has inaccurate information, and goes out of its way to ignore contradictions in the movies in order to force them into the timeline. That biased and false information will not be heeded. Also worth noting is that I consider most games to be canon with the information that they give, so long as it does not contradict the canon below, but I rarely consider the actual storylines of those games to be canon. For example, the storyline of Ultimate Tenkaichi didn't happen because it doesn't fit with canon. However, trivia or information revealed in games like Raging Blast (which has a slew of canon and non-canon trivia), may be taken as canon.

Canon Tiers[]

Media in higher tiers has greater significance than media in lower tiers. Most media in the lower tiers are not canon at all.

  1. The original Dragon Ball manga written by Toriyama, from the start of the Emperor Pilaf Saga to the end of the Peaceful World Saga.
  2. Anything Akira Toriyama has said in interviews or other publications.
  3. The Dragon Ball: Super manga written by Toyotaro, the Dragon Ball: Super anime produced by Toei, all movies, OVAs, TV Specials, and anime filler sections.
  4. Dragon Ball GT, all video games, and any Dragon Ball manga written by authors who are not Toriyama and Toyotaro.
  5. Guides or information (such as the Daizenshuu) not written by Toriyama.

Main Series[]

Dragon Ball Movies[]

Dragon Ball Z Movies[]

Dragon Ball Super Movies[]

Other Mangas[]

Other Releases[]

Video Games[]

Most video games are 'what if' anyway (or are retellings of already canon events), so they don't matter too much. I'll only be listing video games that change significant information with their releases. section is being worked on

Exceptions[]

  1. Kuriza - I consider Kuriza to exist as Frieza's son, though I don't consider his story, Nekomajin, to be canon.
  2. Beelzebub - I consider Beelzebub to exist as Dabura's son, though I don't consider his (non-Dragon Ball) story, Sand Land, to be canon.
  3. Gine - I consider Gine to exist as Goku's mother, though her history in Dragon Ball Minus: The Departure of the Fated Child and scenes in DBS: Broly are non-canon and never happened in my universe.
  4. Towa - I consider Towa to exist in canon as Dabura's younger and less powerful sister. Her video game histories, particularly those of the Xenoverse games and Dragon Ball Online, are not canon to my universe. Notably, Ledas kills her in A Quest for Booty.
  5. I do not consider Frieza and King Cold to be the only powerful and able-to-transform Arcosians. Once, Toriyama stated that this was the case in an interview, but this idea has been disproven in numerous official canon and non-canon sources, including the most recent one which Toriyama worked on, Dragon Ball Super. As such, any Arcosian possesses the ability to transform into all canon Arcosian transformations (as of now, there are the standard 4 + Cooler's Final Form and the Golden Form Frieza uses in Super).
  6. The explanation for how Sorbet can wound Super Saiyan Blue Goku is that he found Whis' extremely powerful ki ring (which Whis left on Planet Bas in One Chop Man) and used its power to wound Goku. Sorbet does not have the actual power level on his own to do anything to even unpowered base Goku.
  7. Across the various video games and GT, Saiyans with tails are shown to sometimes have their tails change color when they go Super Saiyan and sometimes not. For the sake of consistency, for all Saiyans in KidVegeta's universe, when they turn Super Saiyan, whatever level, all of their body hair turns the color of that Super Saiyan form, including the tail fur.

Notes[]

  1. This movie takes place in Age 760, not Age 761 as the Dragon Ball Wiki via the Daizenshuu erroneously claims. Since Gohan has the Four-Star Dragon Ball at the start of Dragon Ball Z, more than a year must have passed between this movie and the start of the series for that ball to not be a stone. Additionally, Bulma, Krillin, and Master Roshi knowing about Gohan's existence is a plot hole. Normally, this would render the movie non-canon, but Dead Zone is given more leeway than any other movie in DB, DBZ, and DBS due to having an anime saga sequel, the Garlic Jr. Saga, featured in Dragon Ball Z. Thus, while this plot hole is acknowledged, the movie is nevertheless canon to my universe. Mayhaps Bulma, Roshi, and Krillin got extremely drunk at Kame House the night after Garlic Jr.'s defeat and completely forgot they had met/heard about Gohan.
  2. This movie has no significant canon breaches. It takes place in Age 765 in my universe.
  3. This movie has no significant canon breaches.
  4. All scenes from Dragon Ball Minus are not canon to my universe and are instead replaced with the continuity from Bardock - The Father of Goku. The non-canon scenes are as follows: 0:43-4:40: the opening scene with Cold's force landing on Planet Vegeta and the transferring of the Cold Force to the Frieza Force; 15:32-18:12: Bardock/Leek returning to Planet Vegeta scene; 18:12-18:48: Frieza and minions scene; 18:48-20:48: Bardock/Gine/Goku scene in their house; 20:48-22:38: Bardock/Gine/Goku scene at night; 22:38-24:25: Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta scene; 24:25-25:31: Nappa/Vegeta/Raditz/other Saiyans scene.
  5. DBS: Broly mistakenly claims that the "present day" is 41 years after Age 737, which is not true, as the movie takes place in Age 780 (43 years later). Shenron grants only one wish because, after the events of the Universe 6 and "Future" Trunks" sagas, the other two wishes for Age 780 were spent. Additional errors include Frieza's third form being much shorter here than it is canonically, Vegeta barely remembering the fusion dance (despite having seen it performed multiple times, and recently), Frieza acting like he doesn't know about the fusion dance (after seeing the form in the Golden Frieza Saga), as well as Gogeta thinking that Frieza wouldn't know about the technique. Regardless, Broly seems to be a character who will remain in the narrative going forward, and thus, for that reason, this movie remains canon.
  6. This movie has no significant canon breaches.
  7. This manga has no significant canon breaches.
  8. This is the only non-canon Tier 2 media. DBM contradicts the Dragon Ball manga in regards to Goku's age and origin in an irreconcilable way. Dragon Ball Minus is also by far the worst thing Akira Toriyama has ever written, making this an easy decision.
  9. This special has no significant canon breaches.
  10. The only potential canon issue is Mr. Satan mentioning to the press that he defeated Majin Buu, but as this takes place 2 years after humankind's memories of Buu were wiped, it's logical to assume Mr. Satan eventually began boasting about saving the world without the people actually remembering what happened.
