Togarashi (トガラシ, Togarashi) is a Makyan featured in Nineteen Assassins. A master of shapeshifting, he is one of the more powerful Makyans alive in Age 752. He's featured as a secondary antagonist in Nineteen Assassins.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
Togarashi, being a shapeshifter, conceals his appearance for most of the story. He appears as those he's killed more often than not. He can also assume the forms of people his opponents have met, as he can read their minds. His true form is only seen after Master Shen used the Tri-Beam on him. Damaged as he became, he was unable to maintain his shapeshifting powers any longer. His true form is typical of a Makyan: blue skin, spiky white hair, pointed ears, sharp teeth. His face is long and oval-shaped and his eyes are red.
Personality[]
Togarashi is an arrogant man, thinking little of mankind. He loves toying with his opponents, shapeshifting into people they care about to break their will. He's a sadistic warrior and enjoys inflicting pain on his foes before killing them. His ability to sense ki gives him additional confidence, knowing that no human is close to his power level. Togarashi is one of the most power-hungry Makyans. During Nineteen Assassins, he killed three of the four Dragons of the Dawn (as well as numerous other Makyans) and named himself king of his species, which united everyone against him. His lack of charisma would have been his undoing had Shen not killed him.
History[]
Nineteen Assassins[]
In the third scene of chapter 2, the White Tigers met Silver, Glase, Eugen, Alabastian, and Charles on the Red Sea three miles north of Akki. Thereafter, the NRRA officers took them to the southern tip of the island, known as Demon's Point. Glase dropped them off in a rowboat.
Glase left them; the Tigers entered the forest. They didn't get very far in before they were attacked out of nowhere by an energy attack. Dazed and bleeding, the Tigers were attacked by what appeared to be a middle-aged woman. Huo-Guo attacked first, though the demon hit her away with a single kick. Zhajiang began charging a Denkoken while Shumi distracted the demon. She wasn't able to hold back the Makyan for long, pleading with Zhajiang to use the technique as she was beaten bloody. The boy tried to gather up as much energy as he could, waiting for the best opportunity.
When the demon punched Shumi to the ground, he saw his chance, releasing all of his energy upon her. Even as the forest burned to ash around her, the demon remained standing, unharmed, laughing at Zhajiang's pathetic attack. Glase and Eugen took this moment to attack from far off, though the demon parried the bullets without effort. Zhajiang begged Zadich to take Huo-Guo and run back to the boat. He planned on saving Shumi himself. The demon laughed at them, creating a red energy ball, for thinking they had any chance of getting away.
Zhajiang grew teary-eyed, flashes of memories coming to him, realizing he'd have to sacrifice himself to save the others. Just then, Shumi jumped up, punching the demon deep in the stomach, causing her to drop her energy attack. Shumi screamed at them to run. Zhajiang didn't want to leave her, but she said there wasn't time for her to get away. They'd all die if they didn't run now. Shumi pinned the demon to the ground. Zhajiang tried to charge up another Denkoken while Zadich pleaded with him to leave. The demon pushed Shumi away, pinning her and pummeling her mercilessly. As Zhajiang prepared to release his attack, he was knocked unconscious by Zadich.
In the sixth scene of chapter 4, Shen tracked Mashiro to the far south island of Akki. While Mashiro was traversing through the jungle, he was attacked by what appeared to be a woman. Shen was most surprised. The Makyan introduced himself by transforming into Shumi. Mashiro attacked in a fit of rage but was blown away by the Makyan's ki. Togarashi noticed Shen, shooting a ki blast at the tree he was hiding in and beckoning him to join the fight. Shen obliged, revealing himself to them.
The two began fighting, the Makyan dodging and blocking all of Shen's attacks. Suddenly, Togarashi transformed into Tao, which startled Shen. His defense faltered, allowing Togarashi to kick him away into a tree. Shen rose, barely damaged. Before Togarashi could attack again, Mashiro hit him from behind with a flying kick. He followed that up with a kiai and an orange-white ki attack that damaged the Makyan significantly. However, the demon was able to recover, springing forth and hitting Mashiro in the gut with a deep punch, knocking him down. Shen ran forth to attack, punching and kicking in a furious combo. the demon dodged and blocked most of the attacks, breaking through and hitting him several times. Shen feinted several attacks to buy himself a few critical seconds to release a Dodon Ray. The blast hit him in the ear, which damaged him, but Shen still considered it a miss.
The demon retaliated with an explosive wave that took both Shen and Mashiro unaware. They were flung to the beach, damaged heavily. Mashiro pleaded with Shen to join forces to kill the demon lest they lose their lives. Shen asked Mashiro to distract Togarashi while he charged up his Tri-Beam. Mashiro agreed to the plan, and so Shen began readying his attack. Mashiro fought Togarashi, though he was barely able to keep up with him. Even a Denkoken to the face did little to the demon. Gathering his energy, Shen waited for Mashiro to take more damage before releasing his attack. Mashiro flung himself aside while Togarashi tried to block the attack. When the dust cleared, the demon's appearance was dire. His flesh and clothes hung in tatters from his body and he could no longer maintain his shapeshifting ability. The demon reverted to his Makyan form, screaming in anger at Shen and rising to the air, a red ball of energy forming between his claws. The Crane Hermit immediately retorted with a second Tri-Beam, decapitating him.
The demon's body fell to the sand in a bloody heap.
