Takebashi Hareki (晴氣はれき•たけばし, Hareki Takebashi) is a Human featured in Nineteen Assassins. Originally a member of the Chàoxing Gon, he joined the Morizakura-gumi yakuza after his previous organization fractured. He is the father of Shoekki and Ryori.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Takebashi is a tan man of average height and weight. He has blue eyes and brown hair. His arms and neck are covered in tattoos, making it very clear he's a yakuza. He tends to wear black-and-white suits and sunglasses. He uses gel to make his hair spiky. Takebashi has numerous gunshot and knife scars across his chest, arms, and shoulders.

Personality[]

Takebashi is a clever, pragmatic man. He's a loyal guy, though he never puts his gang above his own life as seen when he helps Violet sneak into the Goldfish Casino. He's highly perceptive and quick-to-act, as seen when he prevented Violet from killing Mokuzabe. Takebashi can seem cold and ruthless from the outside, but when he's with his family, he's a lot more laid back and fun-loving. The man's reserved nature disappears particularly when he's hanging out with Asamiko.

History[]

Nineteen Assassins[]

At the start of the first scene of chapter 3, Carmichael captured a Chàoxing Gon yakuza by the name of Takebashi who had been taking a smoke break outside of the Goldfish Casino. After beating him, he convinced Takebashi to safely lead them inside. Violet didn't believe him, threatening to kill him until Takebashi said he'd take them to the secret entrance. They weren't sure if he was lying or leading them into a trap. He convinced them to go there after revealing it was meant as a discreet entrance for the bosses' whores. He told them he had a key he had stolen from one of Mazuchiru's whores in his pocket (he had run into her in the red light district while participating in a foursome). Violet found the key and wasn't entirely against the idea anymore. They decided to pursue it cautiously after Takebashi noted the door was only guarded by one man. There were more than thirty yakuza in the actual casino. They preferred not having to deal with them.

Carmichael offered to scout out the tunnel to see if Takebashi was telling the truth. If not, they'd burn the casino to the ground with their helicopter. Afterward, they met with Cassian and the remaining soldiers outside the casino's back door, observing two yakuza smoking. Cassian noticed she'd dyed her hair blonde, complimenting her. Violet said she'd done it to conceal her identity. She ordered two soldiers to flank her and Carmichael while they entered the casino, leaving Cassian and the rest with the helicopter to provide cover and a means to get out of there quickly if things went wrong.

Takebashi led them through the whores' tunnel to Mazuchiru's room. Carmichael found a man guarding Mazuchiru's door, knifing him before he could raise an alarm. Noticing Mazuchiru unconscious in a bed inside, Violet ordered everyone back into the tunnel. After Takebashi confirmed Higataro and Sugoro were running the gang right now, she decided to spare him, as she'd need his help to kill them.

After killing Mazuchiru, she returned to the group, telling Carmichael to ask Cassian to prepare the helicopter for departure. They met Cassian outside. As he prepared to get in the helicopter, he was hit by a sniper's bullet, killing him instantly. Her soldiers began falling. Takebashi took a shot to the arm. Carmichael fell on top of her, shielding her. As her soldiers died, Violet ordered Carmichael to retrieve the helicopter's capsule from Cassian's body. He ran out, getting the capsule before anyone could shoot him (although several more of Violet's soldiers died providing him cover fire). He had taken several bullet wounds, though he wasn't yet done. When the snipers abandoned their posts to close in on the Children of Chaos, he once again tried to fight them off but was shot again. This time, he was flung away, falling into a pool of blood.

Trying to avenge him, she shot back at the snipers, though it didn't take long for her to take a shot to the leg. She fell, watching her last soldiers die. Succumbing to her wound and accepting her fate amongst a sea of tears, she was surrounded by a team of yakuza. Sugoro revealed himself as the mastermind of the ambush, mocking Violet and ordering Takebashi to be placed next to him. Sugoro berated Takebashi for leading Violet to Mazuchiru, betraying their gang. He revealed he had known about Violet's plot and had tracked her the entire time. He was happy she'd killed Mazuchiru, which meant now he and Higataro would officially run the Chàoxing Gon. He swore he'd eliminate the Children of Chaos and take over Diablo Desert.

Without warning and in quick succession, another sniper headshotted Sugoro and his entire entourage. At that moment, a bald man came out from behind a dumpster. He introduced himself as Eugen, saying he needed to take her to his boss. He said they were part of the New Red Ribbon Army. He knew about her helicopter capsule, which startled her. He promised to treat her leg if she went with him. She didn't want to. He raised a pistol at her, demanding that she come with him. He promised to promote her to the rank of commander in the new army. Unwillingly, Violet relented. Takebashi stirred, which intrigued Eugen.

In the third scene of chapter 4, Violet awoke in a tiny prison cell. There were three other cells in the room. She noticed Carmichael in one, Takebashi in another, and the person in the fourth was someone she couldn't see because he lurked in the shadows. She called out to Carmichael, and he showed off he was doing alright. They speculated on who the New Red Ribbon Army were (Takebashi admitting he didn't know who they were either), when the doors on the far side of the room opened, and in strode Cardinal. He cut to the chase, offering everyone a job in the New Red Ribbon Army. If they refused, he'd kill them. Takebashi professed his loyalty to the Chàoxing Gon. Cardinal said that gang were allied to him and immediately pardoned Takebashi, allowing him to leave. The man did not think twice before running out.

In the first scene of chapter 7, while Violet, Glase, and Silver were feasting with the Morizakura-gumi in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Seikishi City, Takebashi brought Violet her plate of food. Violet regretted not killing Takebashi when she'd had the chance. Glase said Takebashi had chosen to join the Morizakura-gumi after his previous yakuza group had fractured.

After Violet tricked Glase in the restroom and killed her, stealing her pistol, she made a beeline to Silver and Mokuzabe. Luckily, none of the yakuza noticed anything suspicious about her on the way over. She went outside, drawing a pistol and pointing it at the men as she approached. Crying, she screamed at Silver for allowing her father to die after promising the opposite. Silver demanded to know what had happened to Glase. Violet promised he'd meet her soon enough. Silver said Charles had killed Eugen and broken out of his cage. It was no wonder he'd been killed for that. He asked her to lower the weapon. Instead, she shot him twice, dropping him.

Next, she aimed at Mokuzabe. He advised her not to shoot him. As she went to, suddenly, she was hit by a bullet from behind, taking the breath from her lungs. Staggering, she tried to shoot Mokuzabe but lost her grip on the pistol and fell over. Takebashi appeared from behind, a gun in his hand. He asked her to beg for her life. She spat blood on his face, thinking to herself about how her father had probably thought she didn't love him. Her last thoughts were of him as she faded from consciousness. Takebashi implied he'd have sex with her after she died. Violet lost consciousness before she could respond.
