Planet Sadala, the homeworld of the Saiyan race, is a planet with a natural gravity ten times that of Earth, which helps give Saiyans a greater natural strength than most races.

Ancient Saiyans[]
Also known as Prehistoric Saiyans, Ancient Saiyans were the original inhabitants of Planet Sadala. A majority of the Ancient Saiyans were evil and wicked in nature with a bloodlust that was nearly insatiable.
Super Saiyan God (race)[]
A subspecies of the Ancient Saiyans, the Super Saiyan God race were a handful of good Saiyans descended from the original Super Saiyan God and had the potential to naturally take on the form. They could also achieve Great Ape, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan 3 Full Power, Golden Great Ape and Super Saiyan 4. A prominent member of the Super Saiyan God race is Shallot.
Modern Saiyans[]
The descendants of the evil ancient Saiyans, Modern Saiyans have evolved differently from their predecessors in that they have lost their tails. This has caused them to be unable to access the Great Ape, Wrathful and Super Saiyan 4 transformations. Likewise, they are unable to utilize the full power Super Saiyan 3 nor can they use transformations exclusive to the Legendary Super Saiyan. However, modern Saiyans are able take on any other Super Saiyan form while a rare few are capable of displaying the "Evil Aura".
Legendary Saiyan[]
The Legendary Saiyans, also called Mutant Saiyans, are a unique type of Saiyan that are born once every 1,000 years. They possess massive power levels, even from birth, compared to the average Saiyan and are capable of taking on the Legendary Super Saiyan form along with other transformations based around the form.

Due to their complete compatibility Human-type Earthlings, Saiyans are able to successfully reproduce with the species and produce children as a result.

All Saiyans resemble Human-type Earthlings with only a few physical traits separating them from the latter.
Tail[]
A trait that all Ancient Saiyans possessed, their monkey-like tails were the source of their ability to take on the Great Ape, Golden Great Ape and subsequent Super Saiyan 4 transformations. It was commonly a source of power for them as not only did it allow Ancient Saiyans to perform at their maximum efficiency, but it also gave them a boost in power to the Super Saiyan transformations.
While a great source of strength, the Saiyans tail was also a source of weakness as it was quite vulnerable to harm with even gripping it causing great pain. This was something that Ancient Saiyans and the rare Modern Saiyans who grew one could overcome through training. Another weakness that the tail provided was that should it be removed, the Saiyan in question would initially lose much of their original power and subsequently result in them unable to access the Great Ape, Golden Great Ape and Super Saiyan 4.

The original transformation of the ancient Saiyans, the Great Ape form was the result of a Saiyan's body absorbing Blutz Waves produced by the moon after making prolonged eye contact with it. This caused them to take on the form of large, brown-furred ape-like beast many times larger than the Saiyans regular height with red eyes and increased their power tenfold. However, this would have the simultaneous effect of increasing a Saiyans rage to the point of losing all form of self-control, resulting in indiscriminately attacking everyone and everything around them. The transformation would eventually be lost to all modern Saiyans as they lost their tails.
Super Saiyan[]

The most powerful ability of a modern Saiyan is the ability to drastically augment their speed, strength and energy by transforming into a Super Saiyan. The ability is common though difficult to achieve normally but gives the Saiyan unbelievable enhancements to their normal abilities. Saiyans possess several Super Saiyan transformations, most notably the Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 forms, each different in appearance and the power they provide. For the majority of the Super Saiyan forms, the Saiyans muscle mass increases slightly, their irises turn bluish-green, and their hair turns golden in color. There are additional transformations beyond Super Saiyan, and variations thereon.
When used by the heroic ancient Saiyan Shallot, the form is identical to the modern day Super Saiyan though it possesses a golden tail. He also displayed a unique angered state with black Super Saiyan-like hair and red eyes. Additionally, Shallot proved to be able to access the full power of Super Saiyan 3.
Super Saiyan God[]

A transformation associated with the Super Saiyan God subspecies, they are able to ascent to godhood and achieve the Super Saiyan God form. This is done through a sacred ritual involving the transfer of ki from five righteous Saiyans to a sixth Saiyan as host. Shallot has been able to attain this form through this way and retain the power including the forms Godly ki. Other ways methods exist for other Saiyans to achieve the form as Cauli was able to do so through training.
Retaining the godly power also causes the user's normal forms to become more powerful than before, and also gifts them with the God-like Saiyan state, a state which utilizes the power of Super Saiyan God without a physical change in appearance. A Saiyan can also transform into a Super Saiyan God at will if they retain the godly power. A Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God who transforms into a Super Saiyan becomes a Super Saiyan Blue. Cauli has been able to achieve this transformation

Golden Great Ape[]

By combining Great Ape and Super Saiyan, a Saiyan becomes a Golden Great Ape. Their offensive capacities have become much greater, and their rage is even more intense than the standard Great Ape's. While in the Golden Great Ape state, the power and strength of a Saiyan increase extraordinarily.
The Super Saiyan 4 form is a unique transformation attained through control of the Golden Great Ape form. Despite being called a "Super Saiyan" it is not part of the main Super Saiyan line of transformations.
By achieving a power beyond their limits in Super Saiyan 4 form, a Saiyan will be enhanced further into an Ultra-full-power Saiyan 4.
While evil ancient Saiyans have been shown capable of taking on the Golden Great Ape form, they have not displayed the ability to become Super Saiyan 4 after gaining control over their Golden Great Ape form.
