In the dead night, I walked down the street. Water Dripped down my face my cap not able to fully cover it. I check my watch for the time. It was 1:00 at night. Mostly everyone was asleep. I didn’t need that. My Red Eyes glowed under my cap. I was in my Normal detective gear. Cheesy yes, but I liked it. When you live for 150 years you want something to spice your life a bit. It was a bright blue suit that he had tailored in South city. Today I was on a case for an elderly woman named Pran. Her Son had been murdered by someone or something. I was not a normal detective. I hunted the unnatural. Ghosts, Demons, Aliens who crashed on earth, and Humans who called on the dark arts, I hunted and captured. I was the best at my job, might have been I was the only Ogre on Earth. I arrived at the spot where the body uses to be. It was still tapped off. I stepped over the tape observing the blood that was left on the ground. I have been told by Pran that the boy had seemed to die from blood loss. He had no visible wound. I rubbed the blood on the ground. It was not a lot of blood left. Most of had dried up. Not that it surprised him. What did surprise me was how he would have lost so much blood without any wounds. I could assume a Vamp. A Vamp or Vampire was a sort of demon that sucked blood from humanoid creatures. They were low power sure but to a normal human, superhuman. I had heard stories of a Vampire, Fang the Vampire came to mind. He worked for that damned Baba. She brought the dead back and forth all the time. I personally am not a fan of that. When the dead died they should stay dead. I was not King Yemma however, my job was to hunt ghosts and demons who escaped hell. I got up to see a flashlight peer on my face. A Cop was pointing his gun at me. Guess I took too long. Cop: “Don’t move or I’ll shoot your under arrest.” I Raised my hands before leaping into the air far above him. The Cop starred up as I landed on a rooftop running off. I didn’t deal with the cops. Most humans didn’t know or want to believe in ghost and demons. I rather not have to explain it to them. I was far stronger than any of them so I was easily able to get away before he had any idea what just happened. I sat on the roof of one of the building as my phone rang. I’d reach into my pocket flipping it open as he heard my partner Cognac speak, “Hey Shen it's me Cognac. I got a lead. There was the same sort of attack in the northern section of the city. Been a string actually. The three other victims seem to be around the same make.” I nodded, “Can you hack into the South City Police system for me.” Cognac grunted over the phone, “One of these days were going to be caught for this stuff.” I laughed a bit. I hope that would not happen but it could. “If they it did then I hope they’d thank us for taking down all these threats, ghost and all.” As I said that I saw a figure watching me on another rooftop with red eyes. I’d speak on the phone, “I’ll call back.” He’d put the phone away as the man seemed to realize I was watching him. I’d dash after him as we left the boundaries of the city. I was able to catch up to the man. He’d turn baring his sharp fangs. Vampire. Vampire: “Heh so you saw me. I was hoping to get some prey.” Shen: “I know you didn’t kill the boy.” Vampire: “The One from two nights ago. No, I didn’t. My Master was out hunting.” I looked at the vampire. He seemed so ready to spill this information. Though a master? Was it another Vampire. Doubtful, he didn’t know any creature off the top of his head that drained blood from its victims. The Vampire moved around as I moved my arms back. Vampire: “You should not have chased me. I’m going to kill!!!” He’d charge right at me swinging his arms down which I stepped out of the way moving to the left of him. Vampire: “Your fast at running but not for long.” He’d keep swinging as I keep moving back from the left to the right avoiding each blow. He was much too slow for me. A normal human was what he expected. He’d finally leap back breathing in hard. I knew it was my turn to attack. I’d charge right at him. The Vampire looked surprised as he kicked him into the dirt. He’d look up rubbing the blood from his mouth his shocked expression shifting to a calm expression as he got up. Vampire: “Ok so your fast and you got a punch but you can’t beat me without…” Shen: “Garlic.” I already knew the assortment of a weakness of a vampire. Shen: “Or a Stake, Or a cross, or silver.” Vampire: “So what you some vampire hunter or something.” Shen: “I am a detective otherworld.” He’d step back fear in his eyes. Vampire: “Dammit. Boss is gonna be pissed.” Shen: “Who is your boss.” Vampire: “I’ll never tell you...time to die Detective!” He’d dash at me swinging his hand over my head. I’d step away sending a punch into his jaw. The Vampire fell back. I charged in elbowing in the chest twice in rapid speed. The Vampire eyes stretched out as he staggered back holding his stomach. I’d draw into my coat slowly. Vampire: “Wait don’t kill me I’ll talk.” I’d smirked. I didn’t have much to kill him with. Not that I was going too. I didn’t kill anyone. I did use my abilities to send ghosts back but you can’t kill a dead person. That was against the code. His code. Shen: “I won’t kill you but I want to know where your boss is.” Vampire: “He is in the Graveyard. He is inside a Crypt that he uses as his base.” Shen: “Your gonna take anyone else’s blood.” Vampire: “Y...yah. I won’t.” I didn’t know if I was lying or not but I didn’t have time to waste. His boss was the biggest threat. I ran off the Vampire falling flat over. Vampire: “Man otherworld is scary.”
I arrived at the bottom with a demonic man sitting playing on his flute. I could hear the tune he was playing. It was a tune that the Ogre used to play. It was a song about the dead. How the dead always rise again whether it be themselves or another of there kin or maybe even just someone who saw their vision. Vampire Lord: “I am Impressed you found me. Though not surprised.” Shen: “Get rid of the cover. I know your not a vampire.” Vampire Lord: “Why do you say that my dear child.” Shen: “A Vampire cannot summon the dead or drain blood without biting into someone.” The Vampire lord cloaked shaken as he snapped his finger at all the corpses he had around him rose up there lifeless eyes beaming with green energy. I moved my hands out of my coat. The zombies jumped at me but I leaped over them landing in front of the Vampire Lord or whatever he was. I threw my fist into his chest as the cloak. I saw thin gas above me which formed an arm. I leaped back as the fist smashed into the ground. As I leaped back, however, I was near the zombies. I turned smashing my left fist into his head he falling over. Two of the Zombies grabbed onto men as I pushed them off. Soon more and more there zombies surrounded me. Really was not that good. Vampire Lord: “You're right I’m not a Vampire. I am a demon who died and escaped his bonds of hell. I have gifted the power to raise the recent dead. I also know your secret detective.” I’d look up and nod as the Zombies tried to bite at me as he tried to keep them at bay. However, despite my strength, they were surrounding me. I needed to act fast. I’d leap up as the zombies looked up. I knew I’d not be able to grab anything as it was a flat top. So I’d fall down. The Demon rushed in his smoky ghosty form swinging his fist right at me. He took the bait. Vampire Lord: “Mid air you can’t move now it ends. Once I knock you into the Zombies you’ll be torn apart.” I’d grasp my coat throwing it right at him. I knew he’d pass right through it but in that second he’d not be able to see. I’d twist my hand out to throw my own punch. As he went through the cloak my fist was covered in ki and the magic of the ogre’s. He assumed he would phase through it but I punched him into the ground. He’d landed as his zombies surrounded him as I landed on top of him breaking the ground under us the zombie falling back a bit from the shockwave. Shen: “For that one second you could not see. As a ghost, you can choose to appear when you attack. Hence no visible wound. You can phase through a foe and damage a vital organ. On the surface, no one sees the damage.” I’d grasp him by the foot throwing him into some of his own zombies clearing a path. He’d get up after this as I charged and threw another punch. He’d leap over just in time landing back where he was standing as he growled. Vampire Lord: “Zombies destroy him now!” The Zombies turned as I drew my gun from my belt. It was a Colt revolver with an old grey shine to it. One of the Great treasure of the afterlife. The Afterlife collected many powerful magic artifacts. When I became the head detective in the afterlife I was rewarded this Pistol. That is a story for another day I suppose. I’d point the pistol as my ki surged through the gun as the zombies rushed at me. I’d cock back the barrel keeping a steady aim. This gun could send the dead back to there place. That was its power. It didn’t kill only returned thing to its original spot. Where it was meant to be. I’d fire full force Ki flying into all the Zombies and the Demon. They all stepped back as the Zombies the Deon holding his chest. Vampire Lord: “No I can’t return yet……” He’d collapsed as his soul returned to the afterlife. The Zombies shards of a soul returned as well. I’d reach into my pocket pulling out my lighter. I’d walk over to my coat. It got quite dirty from being stepped out. Not damaged it’d just need a good wash. I’d grunt as he pulled a cigarette from the coat pocket. A dirty habit but I liked not to forget. I want to remember everything, the good and the bad. It made the good moments like this much better. I’d smoke a cigarette the smoke rising above me as I’d walk out. I had a grieving mother to consult. Cause the dead don’t come back. Even when they do it not the same. Zombies, Ghosts, Vampires. They were not the same person you remember passing from life to death. Cherish the good you have with them rather than plotting. To accept they were dead was never easy but at least he could try. |
