Physiology[]
Appearance[]
A Mrovian plain-runner is heavily-muscled quadrupedal beast with a tail that vaguely resembles a lizard. On average, a plain-runner stands (on all fours) 3.45 meters (11 feet 4 inches) at the shoulder and is 9.38 meters (30 feet 9 inches) long from the front of its head to the tip of its tail. It has a very short neck and a very large mouth with mandibles that can split like a snake’s (with skin, tendons, and other flesh still connecting the halves). The jaws are lined with small teeth and the mouth possesses a long, muscular, prehensile tongue that can also be shot out like a chameleon's. A plain-runner has four eyes, two large eyes not too far behind it’s nostrils above its mouth used to see things up-close, and a pair of smaller eyes on stalks at the top of its head designed to help it see things further away; these smaller eyes on stalks can be moved freely, allowing the plain-runner near-omnidirectional vision (the only real blind spot being below itself).
Diet[]
Mrovian plain-runners are apex predators and activity hunt prey of various sizes. A plain-runner uses its raw running speed to chase down its prey, and then uses its tongue to pull its food directly into its mouth. The prey is then swiftly crushed within the maw before being swallowed whole. Although primarily a hunter, plain-runners are actually opportunistic omnivorous and also eat a wide variety of plants.
