Makare's Band was a group of disaffected samurai who followed the warlord Makare, a former pupil of the Iboinoshishi School. He gathered up most of the remaining samurai in the world, starting in Age 738, with the intent of using them in a war against Elijah, his old rival at the school and its current leader.

History[]

In Age 747, during the events of Chasing Oblivion, Yunwu, the deputy mayor of South City introduced Makare, a wandering bandit of a samurai, to Naigo, another wandering samurai known as the Lord of Hunger. Naigo had been rampaging through the city before the police had been able to subdue him. Instead of imprisoning the man, Yunwu set him free with the intent of using him for her own purposes. Naigo brought with him a few samurai, but not as many as Makare had already gathered. Nonetheless, their Band became the largest group of samurai remaining in the world. Yunwu had hoped to use their force in the bandit war that was about to take place in the Diablo Desert between Wolfe's Wings and the Night Snakes. However, Makare and Naigo flatly refused, for they had other matters to attend to (namely wiping out Elijah and his samurai school). They left Yunwu's skyscraper, butchering several guards who tried to stop them, including Captain Fortier.

It was a few days later Yunwu met with Elijah the samurai. He asked her to find out what Makare was doing in Orange Star City in exchange for a 10% stake in Masamune/Masamune. When Yunwu attempted to negotiate for a 20% stake, the samurai offered her 15%, but no more. She continued to negotiate, which Elijah thought was greatly disrespectful, so he got up to leave. Finally, Yunwu relented, and agreed to the 15% stake. Elijah gave her one week to come up with an answer to his question, or their contract would be void.

Some time later, reports came to Yunwu from Daniel Parroda, her contact, that the samurai had been spotted in Orange Star City (which was just north of Cardan, the countryside town where the Iboinoshishi School was located), where they had gotten into a huge fight with members of the Chàoxing Gon. Koicharu Mazuchiru's yakuza forces had been butchered by the samurai, greatly reducing their fighting numbers in that city.

In Age 749, after Elijah opened the Iboinoshishi School to new recruits, Makare and Naigo started building up their forces, for they wished to kill the man and take over his school. They blackmailed Daniel Parroda to finance them hiring samurai mercenaries. They originally had 237 samurai, but Makare did not feel like that was enough. Eventually, that number swelled to 653, which included practically all known samurai in the world at the time.

With that army, Makare attacked the Iboinoshishi School. His samurai killed all of Elijah's attendants, as well as Kumo, though only 104 members of Makare's Band survived the battle. They destroyed almost the entire school. They forced Harotu to flee and captured Yajirobe and Brian, Elijah's only other living recruits. Yajirobe and Brian were taken to the caves of Igaron mountain in order to be interrogated over their supposed knowledge of the location of Makare's master's grave. In Igaron mountain, Brian accidentally set off some explosives that had been left there by Daniel Parroda (as he had wanted to eradicate Makare's Band too, but had been killed before he could trigger the explosives), killing himself, Naigo, and every samurai in Makare's Band.

Makare barely escaped the explosion. The blast maimed him, especially on his face. He met up with Yajirobe moments later and the two dueled. Yajirobe was able to overpower the wounded samurai lord and behead him, thus bringing an end to Makare's Band.
