Kaito Ryu is a Super Saiyan hybrid and one of the most powerful warriors in the universe. He is the descendant of Amaranth, a Super Saiyan God. He was mentored by Goku, Piccolo and trained with Vegeta for a short time.

Appearance[]
Kaito's appearance honestly doesn't change very much, with him normally wearing some variation of his signature grey gi. His hair is always in a ponytail, with it's normal form being black with fringe at the front, tied by a white ribbon left to him by his father. He is shown to have multiple scars on his body, which either heal over time or remain.
His clothes normally look tattered or just straight up ripped this being due to the life state of Nopales, his home world. He is normally seen wearing a grey open gi with a white shirt inside, two brown leather straps attached to his katanas, grey pants, a white obi over his waist and black boots. He normally wears black, ring-like earrings, but sometimes will change them. He always carries some variation of his father's katanas, with his signature ones being one with a white grip wrapped in black cords and the other being a gold grip wrapped in black cords as well. They normally appear extremely long, partnered alongside Kaito's preferred long-distance fighting style, give him an advantage against his enemies.
Upon partnering with the Z Fighters to protect Nopales, Kaito wears an open grey gi normally secured with either a blue or red obi over his waist, grey pants and black boots. He would go on to later incorporate Capsule Corps logo into his outfit, before returning to his original outfit and sticking to it from then on.
When Kaito first unlocks his Super Saiyan God Form, the band holding his hair together snaps and his hair flows out into that of a "porcupine," however later on his band remains in tact as he learns to control the power of this form, being able to hold his hair together. This later becomes the status quo for the rest of his transformations, with them just being re-coloured versions of his hair and eyes, however when he unlocks his Limit Breaker Form in the fight against his brother Kazuki, his hair noticeably grows a lot longer.
Personality[]
As a child, Kaito had a very optimistic personality. He had always been friends with the locals of Nopales, all of them being Saiyans who had hidden on Nopales to escape Freiza's rule. His father, an extremely strong Saiyan warrior fell in love with a mortal woman and brought her an her closest family and friends to live on Nopales with the rest under her request. The planet of Nopales was regarded as very positive and caring community, with the entire population living inside a domed city in order to avoid detection and protect themselves from the monsters that inhabited the planet. Here, his parents had both him and his brother Kazuki.
Him and his brother were taught a blend of Saiyan and mortal fighting techniques, until eventually they were strong enough to go out and hunt with their father. They began going on multiple hunting trips and the boys began to tell their parents stories about a voice in their head that urged them to destroy all of the monsters. This is when their mother began instilling virtues into the boys, teaching them about compassion and empathy, showing them what would have happened had they listened to the voice and, urging them to protect rather than destroy.
While this had a big impact on Kaito's personality as he grew, Kazuki repeatedly ignored the warning issued to him by his mother, secretly sneaking out at night to go kill the monsters around Nopales, convincing himself that he was simply "protecting his people."
Eventually in his early teens, Kaito developed a stoic type of look on his face, with him face showing zero emotions while he was a deeply empathetic boy. He showed compassion to those around him and frequently got annoyed when people broke out into fights, stopping them and normally lecturing the combatants about their rash decisions. Kazuki on the other hand, being the older brother, got annoyed with how the Nopalese began idolizing his brother instead of him, who had gone out and killed several monsters for them, who was hailed as the greatest hunter of all time. This eventually drove him to partner with the Freiza Force, in order to become the strongest Saiyan in history, someone who everyone would idolize and respect.
One day, Kaito returned from a hunting trip to find the Force attacking the city. He saved as many people as he could on his way to his parent's house, where he found his father in a battle with Kazuki himself. Kazuki looked over at Kaito with a wicked smile on his face, before eventually blasting their father to bits. This event scarred Kaito, leaving him with the feeling that he'd failed to protect everyone, even more so his parents. This left him with the feeling that no matter how many people he saves, it'll never be enough, as long as Kazuki lives or at least, roams freely, taking and destroying more lives. During this moment, he goes into a rage unlocking his dormant Super Saiyan God form and attacking his brother, who in the midst of the shock, flies away in order to report the situation to Frieza, who orders a retreat and goes down to battle the boy himself. He seemingly kills the boy, not knowing that Kaito simply supressed his ki in order to make the Emperor think he was dead, however this wouldn't be revealed until much later.
He is shown on most occasions to have an extremely specific palette, with him on most occasions deciding to cook food himself the way they did it on Nopales. While he does work towards rebuilding his home world, he does occasionally join Goku and friends in their ventures, normally bringing some food along with him. He is regarded to be a master chef by Beerus, Whis, Goku and Vegeta, with him being seen on multiple occasions cooking up meals for his friends when bored or when asked to, stating that it is a hobby of his as it was the last thing him and his mother did together.
He is also shown to be extremely anti-social, often being extremely blunt to the point of offense. He has made multiple people (the most notable being Bulma) mad just be speaking the truth. This is said to be a trait he has had since childhood, with his family having to deal with the people he has offended unintentionally. Kaito is also shown to be extremely smart and cunning, with him beating Zelgadis multiple times just with the power of his brains as he already knew he couldn't beat him with power alone.
He's also shown to fight with his Saiyan side on multiple occasions, with his humanity winning most of the time, however in times where he does lose control, it normally happens for short occasions. Where he'll regain control almost instantly.
At some point in time, he as the blades of his katanas re-forged into the extremely rare Saiyan Steel, in order to become an extension of the will that he forged from his family's death and his own wishes; to restore the order the universe once had.
In one of his many battles against Zelgadis, he unlocks his Limit Breaker form, which grants him a temporary boost in agility and power, in this form his personality is a lot less noticeable, with him not talking at all and focusing more or the battle at hand instead of the opponent's skills or abilities.
Kaito's Relationship with Kazuki[]
As kids, Kaito Ryu and Kazuki both had an extremely strong bond, to the point where the two were preforming extremely dangerous stunts together and then laughing after. However, after they went on their first hunting trip, the two began to grow apart, with Kazuki beginning to focus more on the hunting part of the trip rather than the trip itself. Eventually, the two stopped talking all together, with Kazuki noticeably disappearing more and more while Kaito's relationship with their parents only growing stronger.
This only continued until the Freiza Force raid happened and their relationship was pushed to its brink. Kazuki, who only felt joy when killing their father had become the exact opposite of what their mother and taught them to be. This caused their strained relationship to disintegrate completely, with Kaito stating later on that he lost his brother a long time ago.
Kaito's Relationship with Zelgadis[]
Zelgadis, oftenly referred to as the "Celestial Conquerer" was Kaito's childhood friend and rival, he was one of the few members of Nopales who wasn't a Saiyan, with him being a half-Core Person half-Saiyan (similar to Fused Zamasu). When Kazuki and him grew apart, Zelgadis stayed beside him, becming his refuge in the process. The two went on to become the best of friends, with him and Zelgadis going on several hunting trips and even going outside of Nopales multiple times. After Kazuki's betrayal, Kaito and Zelgadis worked together on rebuilding Nopales, until eventually it was safe enough for them to leave the people be. However, Zelgadis became infuriated with the Freiza Force and Kazuki and went out on multiple occasions to attempt to eradicate their force, failing multiple times.
At some point, Zelgadis begins destroying other universes and worlds in order to becomes stronger, when finally believing himself strong enough, he kills the Freiza of the universe he was in at the time, finally deeming himself worthy of being able to destroy his Freiza. However, before elaving he encounters his Kaito of the main DB universe. When Kaito reveals that he's been looking for the so called "Celestial Conquerer," he didn't expect it to be the friend that he had cherished for so long.
The two then break out into multiple fights across space-time, with Zelgadis or Kaito escaping on occasion when nearing death. However, during a fight with Kazuki, Zelgadis gets in on the action in order to get his revenge for his people, which later ends in him losing his life. This causes Kaito to enter his Super Saiyan God Form and break out into a rage against his brother.
Abilities[]
Super-Saiyan Hybrid Physiology: As a blend of human and saiyan, Kaito possesses incredible speed and strength, adaptability, intellect, emotional depth and resilience.
Ki Manipulation: Kaito can harness and manipulate ki, which he often uses to defend or attack. He also uses it for Ki Blasts (fired from the palm or fingertips) or a Solar Flare (which temporarily blind the opponent).
Zanjutsu (Swordsmanship): Through many decades of studying swordsmanship and trying different ways to blend his ki with it, Kaito eventually found a way to mix swordsmanship and ki-based attacks. The two techniques are:
- Ryūjin Slash: Which is a devastating sword strike infused with ki energy, capable of cutting through almost anything.
- Zan-Ki Barrier: This creates a protective layer of energy around his blades, preventing them from being destroyed.
Crimson Cyclone: This is Kaito's signature technique, it is a combination of swordsmanship and ki manipulation. He spins his blade rapidly, creating a crimson cyclone around his body, when he attacks, the energy extends into a blade-like whirlwind, slicing through opponents.
Empathetic Burst: A manifestation of Kaito's battle between his Saiyan and Human sides. It is an ability unique to him, unable to be replicated by anyone else. His ki surges and he holds his hand above his head and begins channelling his ki into his palm, when he believes he has stored enough, he flips his hand forwards, having two fingers point in the direction, this causes the ki to be released in a glowing orb, which explodes into a blast.
Limit Breaker Form: A transformation that almost surpasses Super Saiyan Blue. In this state, Kaito's hair grows longer and his ki shoots up to a thousand. However, this transformation is temporary and is only accessible when he reaches new heights mid-battle.
Dragon Fist: A form that has been passed down through all generation of his family. The user channels their ki into their fist creating a dragon shaped projectile, when released, the dragon seeks out its opponent(s). It can be released through punching, or by opening the fist, therefore it can be released as a blast.
Facts[]
- Ryu is not Kaito's family name, but is a part of his full name, which contradicts Japan's first name only policy.
