Glase (グレーズ, Gurēzu) is a Human featured in Nineteen Assassins. She is an associate of Cardinal.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
Glase is a woman of average height with shoulder-length black hair. She has brown eyes. She's fairly tan due to the fact she's working in the field most of the time, though she'd naturally have a more pale complexion if not. She tends to wear black suits with bulletproof vests underneath. Her make-up is minimal.
Personality[]
Glase is a terse, professional individual when dealing with clients. She betrays little of her personality to those outside of the New Red Ribbon Army. She's highly introverted and does not socialize with her comrades that much. She terribly dislikes Violet, perhaps due to her thinking Violet is prettier than she is. She's an alcoholic and voracious social media participant. She drinks more than she can take oftentimes, overestimating her tolerance level. She has a high internal drive and a significant internal motivation going on even as reckless as she can be. Glase's paranoia bites her in the ass when she refuses to sleep in chapter 7 of Nineteen Assassins while watching Violet on the train to Seikishi.
History[]
Nineteen Assassins[]
In the second scene of chapter 2, Charles met Jared on the beach. They took a jet ski to the yacht. There, they met General Silver, who led them inside. Glase was in there. Charles had never met her before. Alabastian told him that Glase was his partner in their quest to kill the elusive King of Nowhere. The group drank together, discussing the Negative Utilitarianism League, which sought to kill all life to eliminate suffering, a concept not far removed from Charles' Buddhist beliefs. Silver thought they were evil. They discussed Buddhism, with Jared thinking that samsara was conceptually evil, irking Charles.
Silver told Charles he had previously worked in the Red Ribbon Army, which seemed to disturb Charles. Glase told them Eugen was in place, indicating that the plan against the Rebel King of Nowhere was now set in motion. Jared asked if Charles wanted to watch them take the king out, as they had hired assassins (from the school of the White Tigers) to do so. Glase admitted the king was an alien of some sort. She said the aliens had lived in the region for a while, though they had mainly kept to themselves until only a few months ago when they had started killing people every now and then. Jared thought they were eating their prey. Silver believed they were using the victims for blood sacrifices. Jared noted that the Rebel King of Nowhere was fighting his own kind as well, which was pissing everyone off. They were only targeting him because he was attacking everyone, humans and aliens, breaking the supposed neutrality the sides had maintained beforehand. Jared said that previously, many more of these aliens had lived on Earth, but as of now, only the tribe on Akki seemed to remain. In-fighting had reduced their numbers significantly. Charles agreed to accompany them to watch the Rebel King of Nowhere's demise.
In the third scene, the White Tigers met Silver, Glase, Eugen, Alabastian, and Charles on the Red Sea three miles north of Akki. Thereafter, the NRRA officers took them to the southern tip of the island, known as Demon's Point.
Glase dropped them off in a rowboat. She explained the Rebel King of Nowhere lived in the jungle just beyond the beach and had red skin. He would be unmistakable. The woman promised to provide cover fire for them if they required help. She didn't know if the demon would skinchange in front of them, as they had little experience with him. She reminded them that King Furry himself had ordered the alien killed, for he was supposedly planning on taking over the world. This unnerved Huo-Guo. Glase left them; the Tigers entered the forest. After Zhajiang used his Denkoken on the demon, Glase and Eugen provided cover fire, though the Makyan easily parried the bullets away.
In the fourth scene of chapter 4, after Charles fled back to Akki and ran into Tights for the second time, Glase reached them. Charles fell over, succumbing to his wounds. She noted she wasn't allowed to kill him even after Alabastian's death. She had been ordered to capture him and reunite him with his daughter. She hit him with the butt of her rifle. Tights ran off as Charles lost consciousness.
In the third scene of chapter 5, Charles had a dream where three bodhisattvas meditated in the shade of a fig tree. There was a demon peeking out from behind it, taking the form of his daughter Violet, which stressed him out. His master Preggu watched him, drinking tea, thinking how immature Charles was. The demon kept asking Charles to come to her, but he refused, thinking it was a trick, a trap, or something evil.
Charles woke up at that moment, seeing Glase, Silver, Eugen, and Cardinal before him. Cardinal was a man he hadn't seen in many years. His anxiety skyrocketed. Charles realized he was strapped to a chair in a windowless room. Glase asked if she could kill him to avenge Jared. Cardinal denied her, saying there were things he needed from Charles. Afterwards, Silver would decide what to do with him.
As his rage built, Charles struggled to maintain eternal compassion for all beings, a core tenet of Buddhism. Cardinal told him that he had captured Violet. She was in another room. He then began to interrogate Charles to see if he'd told King Furry or anyone else about him. Cardinal called him General Indigo, revealing Charles had once been a member of the Red Ribbon Army. Charles was incredulous. Cardinal threatened to kill Violet if he wasn't honest. Charles categorically denied that he'd ever told anyone anything about the Red Ribbon Army. He was furious that Cardinal had even thought he was capable of that.
Cardinal informed him that the Red Ribbon Army had fallen and he was planning on creating a New Red Ribbon Army to take its place. Thus, he was collecting all of the surviving officers to return them to their cause. Glase said they were going to once again attempt to collect the Dragon Balls and take over the world. Charles said he had retired before Commander Red had begun his quest for the Dragon Balls and that he remained retired. He declined to join the NRRA.
Cardinal whistled. The others joined him in leaving the room.
In the first scene of chapter 6, Violet and Carmichael ate breakfast inside their prison cells. Just then, the big metal doors opened. Cardinal, Silver, Glase, and Eugen entered. With them were two people bound by their wrists: Charles and Kyofune (whom Violet didn't recognize). She was overcome by negative emotion seeing her father, trying to ignore him as best she could. Eugen and Glase put Kyofune in a cell while Silver brought Charles to the center of the room. Cardinal wasted no time in asking Violet to join the New Red Ribbon Army. When she refused, Silver punched her father in the gut. She didn't expect to feel for him, but it was a visceral reaction. She begged them to stop hurting him. Silver pistol-whipped Charles, asking for Violet to bring an end to things, as he didn't want to do this. She didn't believe him yet refused to change her mind. He continued pummeling Charles. Charles looked to Violet, his watery blue eyes moving her deeply.
She broke, falling in line, telling Cardinal she'd join Silver in his search for Copper. Cardinal informed her that she'd be accompanying Glase and Silver to Seikishi City (a medium-sized town south of West City) to meet with the Morizakura-gumi yakuza group. Since the Chàoxing Gon was leaderless, they could no longer be relied upon to protect Cardinal's shipping routes through Diablo Desert. He needed a new gang to provide muscle. If she behaved, he would allow her to join Silver's search for General Copper afterward. Violet shouted that Eugen had killed Sugoro while she had killed a man in a coma. What he had done was worse. And Violet was justified in what she'd done, as Mazuchiru had killed her boyfriend Nathaniel.
Glase let her out of her cell, warning her not to try anything. Cardinal ordered Eugen to bring Carmichael out of his cell too. He did so, pushing him out with a pistol against the man's back. Cardinal asked Violet to choose one of the other prisoners to live, as he was only willing to house one of them in a cell. In disbelief, Violet cried out, asking him to reconsider by putting them in the same cell. She seethed, thinking to herself how badly she wanted to murder Cardinal. The man would do no such thing. She had to make a choice then and there. Carmichael fell against Charles for some reason, though Eugen quickly pulled him away. Cardinal warned her that if she didn't make a decision, he'd kill both prisoners. Cardinal prepared to shoot Charles when Violet begged him to kill one of the other prisoners instead. Cardinal had use for them still. He had no use for Charles and Carmichael going forward. Realizing she had to make a decision, Violet reluctantly nodded to Carmichael, whose face had grown pale with fear. He was hurt by Violet choosing him. In the next moment, Cardinal shot him in the face.
Cardinal asked her to supply Eugen with the location of the remaining Children of Chaos. If she didn't, he'd kill Charles too. Unwillingly, she did so. She and her father had a brief moment of recognition, though she couldn't talk to him before she was ushered out of the room, thinking to herself how it had been his fault that she had joined the Red Ribbon Army. He'd abandoned her soon afterward, and for that, she had never forgiven him.
Glase pushed her to the door. It was time to visit the Morizakura-gumi. Violet swore to herself that she'd kill them all.
In the first scene of chapter 7, Violet, Silver, and Glase took a midnight train from Orange Star City to Seikishi City. They had a private room. Violet was chained up. She asked Silver for cocaine but he didn't have any. He told her to watch herself as he was the only one in the NRRA who didn't want her dead. She needed to prove her loyalty to them before she could get assurances for anything. She had refused to join them before and thus her situation was a result of her own doing.
She asked him if Cardinal had truly served in the Red Ribbon Army because she had never met him. Silver explained he had mostly worked in Central City as a spy for Commander Red. He had also saved Silver from being executed by Red's goons. Afterward, Cardinal had resigned from the RRA, leaving Red at the mercy of Goku.
Silver said that after they dealt with the Morizakura-gumi, Violet would join him to search for General Copper, as he was the only remaining RRA officer unaccounted for. He had last been seen with a Dragon Radar which Silver wanted desperately. With that device, they'd be able to find the Dragon Balls quickly and use them to take over the world. Violet agreed to help him on that mission, especially since both of them had served under Copper and had good relationships with him. Silver didn't know where Copper was. It would be their job to find him. He speculated Gero might also be alive but they had no information on him at present. Violet said she'd help while thinking to herself that she didn't care about world domination and wouldn't mind killing Copper, as he'd been rude to her on more than one occasion.
She asked if her father would be spared if she did this. Silver confirmed that to be the case, which eased her mind somewhat. She thought to herself that she'd kill Glase and Eugen to avenge Carmichael. Her wild hope was that Silver would join the Children of Chaos, as much of a pipe dream as that was.
Violet slept the rest of the way to Seikishi. When they got there, she awoke, noticing Glase hadn't slept at all. Silver was dozing. Violet woke him and they set off, taking a hovertaxi from Seapark Station to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town that was the Morizakura-gumi's base. Silver didn't give the taxi driver a tip, which enraged him, but he fled after Glase flashed her gun.
They met a group of yakuza outside the building. Their leader Mokuzabe was shirtless. He apologized that his uncle Eigan, who was the leader of the gang, hadn't been able to make it. He welcomed them to join the gang inside where a Korean all-you-can-eat barbecue had been prepared to celebrate their partnership. The yakuza didn't take their weapons but warned them not to try anything. Silver promised nothing would happen. Everyone went inside, Glase and Violet sitting at one of the tables while a yakuza brought them their plates. The other yakuza and Silver dispersed around the room, talking and eating amongst themselves.
When the yakuza brought them their plates (and Glase a glass of red wine), Violet recognized Takebashi as one of them. Violet regretted not killing Takebashi when she'd had the chance. Glase said Takebashi had chosen to join the Morizakura-gumi after his previous yakuza group had fractured. Yakuza kept refilling Glase's wine glass every ten or so minutes. She quickly became drunk, especially since she wasn't eating anything. As she grew more reckless, Violet was able to catch sight of a conversation she was having on her phone with Cardinal that revealed Charles had escaped, killed Eugen, and been taken out by assassins.
Violet was overcome with rage, trying her best to mask it. She felt betrayed by Silver and resolved once more to kill everyone in the NRRA. She waited until Silver and Mokuzabe slipped outside for a smoke break before informing Glase that she needed to use the restroom. As Glase didn't want Violet to piss all over herself and offend the yakuza, she agreed to take her.
Violet slipped one of her chopsticks into a pocket. A yakuza guard joined them, waiting at the restroom's door. Violet noticed Glase was incredibly drunk, barely able to hold it together. Glase washed her face in the sink while Violet used the restroom. In there, she split the chopstick in two, hiding each half behind her palms.
Glase was waiting for her outside the stall, telling her to wash her hands. Violet obliged, walking over to the sink, making snarky comments about Glase's liquid lunch. At the sink, Violet unexpectedly spun around, jamming one of the chopstick fragments up Glase's nose. She stuck the other one in the woman's ear. She took the screaming woman to the ground, battering her skull open. As Glase spasmed and seized, Violet fumbled for her pistol. Glase died moments later from her wounds.
Trivia[]
- Glase may have hated Violet so much because Violet was prettier than she was. Hard to say. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all.
