Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 4, released as Dragon Ball Z 4 (ドラゴンボール Z 4 Doragon Bōru Zetto Shi) in Japan, is a fighting video game, is a fighting video game based on the Dragon Ball franchise. It was developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and released on November 16, 2024, on Budokai 3's 10th anniversary.
Gameplay[]
Ki[]
Each character has a base Ki level, Ki will increase/decrease slowly until it is at base Ki level. If Ki is higher than the base Ki, then a bonus in attack is acquired (under base Ki level, a defense bonus is gained until you are back at normal defense level). Transformations can increase base Ki (this also evens out transformations as having less than base Ki will reduce a character's defense).
Transformations[]
In Budokai 4, a transformation will increase the base ki level, and is only reverted if a character is hit with less than one Ki guage. Additionally, some transformations (like Cell, Broly and Frieza's) are irreversible.
Beam Struggles[]
If two beam attacks collide a beam struggle is activated. The two characters can mash the top face button in order to push the two beams to one character or the other. If the fighters are close to each other and use Energy Wave Blasts on each other, they can damage each other or cause a Double K.O. with low health.
Differences From Budokai 3[]
- Fusions have been completely removed, all the characters that required fusions to be used before are now separate characters with their own spots on the roster, the timers for the dance fusions have also been removed.
- Budokai 4 contains a new skill editing system. For example: all of Goku (Z)'s transformations used to take up 4 slots, one for each transformation, while all four take only 1 slot (TRANSFORM!) in Budokai 4.
- Almost all characters in Budokai 4 have new combos, including Continuous Energy Bullets and a barrage of punches and kicks.
- Hyper Mode, the mini game for Ultimate Moves, and Dragon Rushes from Budokai 3 are removed. Because of the removal of Hyper Mode, Ultimates can now be used freely.
- A Dash attack and a secondary throw are added.
- Transformations end on Fatigue instead of Ki Energy.
- Most Characters are given new Specials (Ex: Krillin is given Solar Flare) and some are given new Ultimates (Kid Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Cooler have Full Power Consecutive Ki Blasts).
