Dragon Ball: ZENKAI Royale is a video game based on the Dragon Ball manga released in 2014 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One. It features gameplay similar to the Budokai games, with several tweaks.
In total, ZENKAI Royale features __ characters from across the Dragon Ball franchise, and redesigns battling around the ZENKAI meter, which goes up as you battle, and can be used in a variety of situations, from quick transformations to a saved-up Level 3 ZENKAI Special.
Gameplay[]
Dragon Ball: ZENKAI Royale is a two-dimensional fighting game similar to the Budokai games before it, with various additions. Instead of the ki meter from most Dragon Ball games, you have a ZENKAI meter, which functions similar to the special meter from various fighting games.
To build your ZENKAI meter, you can either charge ki (which is slower, but somewhat easier) or inflict damage on enemies, which charges the meter much faster. Once you fill the meter, a 1 will be displayed next to it, and the meter empties. Now, you can choose to use this Level 1 to transform (if applicable) or to use a Level 1 ZENKAI Special, or you can keep going to charge it into Level 2 and Level 3.
Aside from your three ZENKAI Specials, you can use a variety of melee attacks and combos, small ki attacks, or a Special, which takes a bit off your ZENKAI meter, but can be used without charging it fully. In addition, by purchasing Capsules with Zeni, you can add skills to your characters, and in some cases, alter their ZENKAI Specials and transformations.
ZENKAI Royale also features a Story Mode, in which you pick a character and play through a campaign of battles with them. This mode, while functioning similarly to Raging Blast 2's Galaxy Mode, features cutscenes and more story, unlike Galaxy Mode, which simply went from battle to battle. Upon beating a character's story mode, you may unlock new capsules for them, or even a new character.
In addition, by completing certain missions, you collect Dragon Balls. Not all characters can collect all the Dragon Balls- however, your Dragon Ball count is consistent throughout stories, so if you don't get all Dragon Balls in one story, you can go to another to earn the rest. With the Dragon Balls, you can wish for new stages, new characters, or new capsules.
