DragonBall Z: Zen Budokai

This article, DragonBall Z: Zen Budokai, is the property of Nubescout.

Dragon Ball Z: Zen Budokai is a video game for PS2, PS3, PSP and XBOX 360. It is a new part of the Budokai series with many characters from the Tenkaichi series.

New features[]

The gameplay is the same as Budokai 3 and Infinite World except the Ultimate blast offense-defence win is decided with an analog stick clash like Budokai 2. The Bulma model from Budokai 3 is now a playable character but all characters must be unlcoked before she becomes playable.

Story[]

The story mode is the same as Budokai 3. Each character is given their own Saga prologue and epilogue. Here are the different story battles.

Goku's Story[]

Piccolo Saga[]

Prologue: 3 years after defeating the Demon King Piccolo, Goku enters the 23rd World Tournament. He meets up with his friends but his true intentions of the tournament are to defeat an opponent, an opponent bent on destroying him.

Saga Epilogue: After defeating Piccolo, Goku spares the demon's life and leaves with his wife Chi-Chi. We now look on to five years later.
Saga Epilogue (What if): Goku and Piccolo's efforts weaken Garlic Jr but are not enough, however, Garlic Jr is defeated by Goku's son, Gohan.

Saiyan Saga[]

Prologue: 5 years after defeating Piccolo, Goku is encountered by an unfamiliar warrior from the Saiyan race. Goku just now start a battle and begin a journey that will take him and his power beyond whay they were before.

Saga Epilogue: After defeating Vegeta, Goku decides to spare him and let the Saiyan prince escape. Krillin, Gohan and Bulma now travel to Namek to revive their falling friends with the Original Dragon Balls.

Saga Epilogue: With a powerful Spirit bomb, Goku destroys the Super Namek Slug and his Freeze machine. Goku is now injured and needs to rest while his friends keep training.

Frieza Saga[]

Prologue: Gohan, Krillin and Bulma are forced to team up with Vegeta when an evil tyrant known as Frieza who seeks the Dragon Balls. After healing his wounds, Goku travels to Namek and keeps training but will his training be enough to stop the Ginyu Force and Frieza?

Saga Epilogue: Goku's new Super Saiyan powers were enough to defeat Frieza, however, the unstable Planet Namek is about to blow up. Thinking Goku died, Bulma tries to wish him and Krillin back to life but is told some news. Goku says he's alive and will return by himself.
Saga Epilogue (What if): Using his full power, Goku is able to completely destroy Cooler. The Planet Namek has now been saved by Frieza and his brother thanks to the Saiyan from Earth.

Cell Saga[]

Prologue: A year after defeating Frieza, Goku senses Frieza's presence approaching Earth. Goku is about to intervene but senses a new development on Earth.

Saga Epilogue: Because of Gohan's arrogance, Goku dies against Cell. When Cell returns Goku is able to help his son defeat the android with his encouragement and later say his goodbyes before going around his new home, Otherworld.
Saga Epilogue: Goku destroyed Android #13. With all of Gero's creations destroyed, the Earth remained peaceful for years.
Saga Epilogue: With his new Ascencion, Goku's power is able to destroy even Cell's Ascended form. With the Cell Games over, Goku is crowned the winner and the Earth's true saviour.
Saga Epilogue (What if): With Goku's intervention against Bojack, Gohan is able to reawaken his Ascended form and destroy Bojack thus succeeding Goku as Earth's protector.

Majin Buu Saga[]

Prologue: In Otherworld, Goku meets a new rival Pikkon who is powerful enough to defeat Cell with one attack. Goku and Pikkon now fight in the Otherworld tournament, who will be victorious?

Story Epilogue: Goku's Super Spirit Bomb is enough to destroy every part of Kid Buu. With the universe now safe, decades of peace are ushered in.
Story Epilogue (What if): The father-son fusion battle ends with the fused fathers Gogeta defeating their son Gotenks. Trunks and Goten will now be punished for making fun of their fathers.
Saga Epilogue: Goku takes on the reborn Buu as his student and successor. His goal was to fight a stronger opponent and give Earth a new protector.

GT Saga[]

Prologue: Years after starting their training, Goku and Uub fight against eachover to test if the training has been worth it for Uub. What will happen now?

Story Epilogue: Goku is accidently turned back into a child by Emperor Pilaf. Now Goku must travel across the universe in search of the Black star Dragon Balls.
Story Epilogue (What if): Though the battle was over, Goku couldn't forget Omega's last words. He decides to train in order to protect the Earth without the Dragon Ball's aid.
Story Epilogue: In the battle between the two Super Saiyan 4 rivals, Goku beat Vegeta. Their rivalry continues with both of them training to be the best.

Long ago, a boy was found and raised in the woods by a man called Gohan. One day, he met a girl called Bulma and together they went in search of the seven magic Dragon Balls.

Saga Epilogue: Goku beat Jackie Chun and won the World Tournament. Roshi believed this would make Goku think no one could beat him but it didn't. Goku still seeked further strength and continued training.

Red Ribbon Army Saga[]

As Goku searched for the Dragon Balls he became enemies with the Red Ribbon Army who wanted to use them for their selfish desires. Goku must now save the world from this threat.

Prologue: Goku enters the Tournament and finds out Roshi's rival's greatest pupils Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu are competing. As the Tournament goes on it seems tougth but the battle after the Tournament will be even harder.

Story Epilogue: Goku's Spirit bomb completely destroyed Omega Shenron. After the Dragon Balls returned to normal, he wished that the lives of all those killed in the Super #17 incident before leaving with Shenron. None of the Z-Fighters ever saw their best friend again.
Story Epilogue (What if): Despite the Evil Dragon being defeated, Goku couldn't forget Omega Shenron's last words. He then trained to defend the Earth without the Dragon Ball's aid.
Story Epilogue (What if): As a Super Saiyan 4, Vegito destroyed Omega Shenron. After a while, Goku and Vegeta were restored to their original bodies and decades of peace were ushered in.
Story Epilogue (What if): In their final ultimate battle, Goku defeated Vegeta. He then said his goodbyes to his friends before leaving them forever.

Kid Gohan's story[]

Piccolo Saga[]

Prologue: After defeating Piccolo, Goku settled down with his wife Chi-Chi. He then had a child called Gohan.

Saga Epilogue: Gohan, unlike Goku, was pushed into studying by Chi-Chi instead of fighting. Little did he know he would eventually achieve power great enough to defend the universe.
Saga Epilogue (What if): Gohan pushed Garlic Jr into the Dead Zone. Amazed at his son's power, Goku decided to keep it a secret from Chi-Chi.

Saiyan Saga[]

Prologue: After defeating Piccolo, Goku settled down with his wife Chi-Chi. He then had a child called Gohan. Years later, he went with his father to meet Goku's friends, however, the day's events would soon change the lives of all of them.

Frieza Saga[]

Prologue: After arriving on the Planet Namek, Gohan and Krillin find out Vegeta has arrived on the Planet as well as the tyrant Frieza, both who are looking for the Dragon Balls. The Z Fighters must find a way to stop these almighty threats before it's too late.

Saga Epilogue: Gohan is beaten up by Vegeta who spares him. They then try and revive Goku before finding out he's still alive.
Saga Epilogue: Thanks to Gohan, the brothers Frieza and Cooler are defeated. The universe is now peaceful and safe thanks to the Son of Goku.

Garlic Jr Saga[]

Prologue: Gohan finds out that Garlic Jr has returned and possessed everyone except him and Krillin. They must now somehow defeat the immortal Garlic Jr and restore the world to normal.

Saga Epilogue: Gohan destroys the Makyo Star and permantly seals Garlic Jr inside the Dead Zone. Kami restores the world to normal and peace returns for a while.

Cell Saga[]

Prologue: After a year of peace, Gohan senses a powerful ki approaching earth which is undoubtably Frieza, however, a Super Saiyan from the future defeats Frieza and gives Goku a warning about killer androids appearing in 3 years.

Prologue: When fighting the androids, the Z Fighters discover an even greater android known as Cell. To combat this threat, Gohan and Goku enter the Hyperbolic time chamber for extensive training.

Story Epilogue: Gohan destroyed Cell and saved the Earth, however, the price of victory had come at the cost of Goku's life. The Hero decided to stay in Otherworld and with some sorrow, Gohan goes on with his life.
Story Epilogue (What if): With help from Goku, Gohan was able to transform to his ascended form again and destroy Bojack. Gohan begins to take Goku's place as Earth's saviour until Chi-Chi pushes him to study again.
Story Epilogue (What if): In a farewell battle, Gohan manages to win against his father Goku. A tear falls to his eye as he watches his father leave the living world.

Majin Buu Saga[]

Prologue: 7 years after the Cell Games, Gohan begins to go to high school. He becomes the superhero Great Saiyaman but is found out by Hercule's daughter Videl and forced to enter the World Tournament.

Story Epilogue: Because of Goku's overconfidence, Gohan is adsorbed by Buu. How will Goku stop this ultimate threat?
Story Epilogue (What if): With Buu's drop in power, Gohan wins with ease. With Goku now revived, the Earth soon returns to normal and Gohan goes back to his studying.
Story Epilogue (What if): Gohan destroys the Pure Buu and restores the Earth to normal. Years of peace will now be there thanks to the Goku's amazingly strong son.
Story Epilogue: Gohan defeats his father's Super Saiyan 3 form. He has now proven himself to be the strongest Z Fighter and takes Goku's role as universal saviour.
Saga Epilogue (What if): Gohan battles the reborn Buu and teaches him some new skills. It seems Gohan is returning to the battlefield.

GT Saga[]

Prologue: Years later, the Earth is under threat when a Tuffle parasite starts invading the Saiyan's bodies and possessing them. When Goten is possessed, Gohan confronts his brother.

Prologue: As Gohan starts to go to high school he finds it hard to hide his powers. Bulma make him a device to transform into a superhero, the Great Saiyaman.

Story Epilogue (What if): Saiyaman beats Hercule and becomes World Champion and proves to the world who really defeated Cell. He then goes on to become the longest reigning champion.
Story Epilogue (What if): Great Saiyaman lets his daughter Pan win their fight before retiring from the superhero world. As a hero ends a new one is born, Pan the Great Saiyagirl.

Goten's story[]

Prologue: Seven years after the Cell Games Gohan has become a teenager and started attending high school. His younger brother Goten has been trained by his mother and now starts training with Gohan to prepare for the World Tournament.

Story Epilogue: As Gotenks is about to destroy Buu, his Super Saiyan 3 transformation wears off. With his great strength now gone how will the two children survive?
Story Epilogue (What if): Gotenks destroys Majin Buu and brings peace to the world. Gotenks now considers himself the universe's strongest warrior but becomes second to Gohan's new power.
Story Epilogue (What if): Gotenks manages to defeat his father Gogeta, however, because of this the two boys were in a lot of trouble with their mothers.

Prologue: Five years have passed since Goku went off to train Uub. Now a new threat has come to Earth, the Tuffle parasite Baby and Goten is the first person to encounter this warrior.

Omega Shenron (What if) -Area: Ruined City [Play as Gotenks (Base, Super Saiyan, SS3, Hyper SS3)]

Story Epilogue: Goten and his friend's efforts in their battle against Omega Shenron paid off. Goku manged to create a Sprit bomb and destroyed Omega bringing peace to the universe.
Story Epilogue (What if): Gotenks full power was enougth to slightly stun Omega but was noweher near as powerful as the Dragon. Goku's Spirit bomb defeated Omega and saved the universe.

Vegeta's story[]

Prologue: The Saiyan's homeworld was destroyed along time ago. The few survivors made a living invading planets and handing them to their overlord Frieza. Now in an effort to gain their freedom, the Prince Vegeta and his ally Nappa arrive on Earth in orer to become immortal with the Dragon Balls.

Prologue: After being beaten by the Z Fighters, Vegeta leaves to Planet Namek to use their Dragon Balls, however, Frieza has found out about the balls and wants to use them to become immortal. Who will win in this race for the Dragon Balls?
