Daniel Parroda (パッロダ•ダニエル, Parroda Danieru) is a human native to Orange Star City. At 26 years of age, he is the world's reigning Lightweight Boxing Champion, making him somewhat of a celebrity. He is the older brother of Mr. Satan and was a major influence in Mark becoming a fighter. He works as a third party between Makare's Band and the Iboinoshishi School. He is a major character in Spindlerun: The Tale of Yajirobe.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Daniel is a man of medium height. He is in exceptional shape, as is required of any reigning Lightweight Boxing Champion. He has curly red hair and black eyes. He tends to wear western-style clothes with robes or capes over them. He has been known to dress up in more absurd attire, as seen in the first chapter of Spindlerun: The Tale of Yajirobe when he ran into Yajirobe.

Personality[]

Daniel is a man of many varying interests. Due to his wealth, he has purchased several different homes - notably the winery in Cardan and the house in Orange Star City. He is generous with his money, often spoiling his little brother by buying him steaks and expensive gifts. He cares for Mark immensely, using the multiple-house maneuver to keep his brother and his female lovers separate at all times. He thinks he is perhaps more clever than he actually is, though, as when he ordered the hit on the Solipsist Colony, he correctly surmised that Makare would eventually figure out what he had done, but he never did anything to protect himself if that were to happen. He is somewhat neurotic and paranoid, especially when he's tired. He often gets insomnia, too, so that is not a good combo. Daniel has a strong will and is a good fighter, but his fists are no match for a samurai's katana. He overestimates himself, despite that.

History[]

Spindlerun: The Tale of Yajirobe[]

In chapter 1, Daniel gave Yajirobe some flyers out on the street, including one for the Iboinoshishi samurai school. The boy, annoyed at that, wadded up a bunch of them and threw them back at the man, causing him to fall into the road and let out a cry of pain. Later on, when Brian recounted his story about the jabillo fruit in Mr. Parroda's house, he was talking about Daniel Parroda. Daniel knew Brian's mother and the boy and his brother would often go over to the house with her when they were little.

In chapter 2, Daniel called up General Blue, revealing that he was the client who had paid for the Blue Legion to come to Orange Star City. He asked Blue to keep the mission a secret and to only tell his top commanders what they were being paid to do. He also ordered Blue to leave the bodies where they fell, indicating that he was sending the Red Ribbon Army to kill some people, but who those victims were was not revealed on the phone call. He told Blue that his name was Daniel, though did not reveal anything else. He asked Blue not to call him back until he had completed his task. Then, he hung up and texted Blue the instructions for what he was to do.

Later, Daniel wandered the halls of his house at around five in the morning, unable to sleep. He noted that his house reeked of mandarin oranges due to his roommates. When he returned to his room, he noticed a wooden box on top of three books. That immediately made him feel uneasy, as Daniel had not placed that box there. He guessed that perhaps one of his servants had been in his room and moved the box. Then, he remembered that he told them not to clean his room that day and had locked the door. Since he had the only key, it was not possible for them to have entered his room.

He noticed that the seven-star Dragon Ball that he had been keeping in that box was missing, which saddened him. He did not know what a Dragon Ball was, but had found it on the bank of a river near his countryside house twelve years prior. He looked all over for it, but there was no sign of it. Somebody had clearly stolen the ball.

Soon after, General Blue called Daniel up to tell him that he had succeeded in his task: killing all of the Solipsist Colony monks. Daniel was relieved, thanked the man, and hung up. Then, one of his female roommates entered his room to converse with him about something, though he was tired and his leg still hurt from a wound he had sustained in a boxing match the previous night. After letting her in, he began to suspect that it had been Makare who had stolen his Dragon Ball, for the man would likely suspect him of sending the Red Ribbon Army to the Solpsist Colony. He would likely retaliate stronger in the coming days, which put Daniel on guard.

In chapter 3, Naigo asked Makare what had happened with Launch. The other samurai said he had not heard from her yet, but was not worried, for he did not believe that Daniel would have killed her. When Elijah and his samurai recruits visited Daniel's vineyard in Cardan, he bought 157 barrels from Daniel's younger brother, Mark. Elijah paid for the barrels, handing Mark some zeni, and asked the boy to give that to his brother. At the conclusion of the barrel-dodging training session, Elijah asked Mark to tell his brother Daniel that he wanted to meet with him soon, as it had been a long time since they had seen each other. Mark agreed to relay the message. Later, when Naigo found the dead solipsist monks he immediately suspected Daniel of being responsible for their deaths.

In chapter 4, Daniel visited the Solipsist Colony's cave dwelling in Igaron mountain, where Makare, Naigo, and their samurai had taken up residence. He rigged the place with explosives, noting that Makare and Naigo would kill him if they found him. But he was not on either Makare's nor Elijah's side. A few of their samurai were inside the cave with him, setting up camp, but they did not notice him, as it was quite a large cave.

He left before being spotted. He thought about the fact that he was being forced to pay Makare, and thus fund part of his operation, so that Makare would not kill his brother Mark and destroy their winery. He also thought about how Elijah's parents had owned his land before he had come into possession of it. He revealed that his previous story about finding the Dragon Ball on the banks of a river was a lie - it had been in Elijah's parents' house when Daniel had purchased the place. Elijah had requested it, but Daniel had refused to give it to him. Daniel regretted the fact that he hadn't been able to pay General Blue and his men to kill Naigo. They had to leave Orange Star City after killing the solipsist monks to begin their hunt for the Dragon Balls. As he descended Igaron mountain, Daniel looked towards the distant Orange Star City. He thought about how some kids had recently broken into his yard and stolen some of his jabillo fruit, which annoyed him greatly.

Later in the chapter, while Yajirobe, Brian, and Harotu were eating in a diner, Yajirobe noticed a photo of Daniel Parroda and remembered that that man had given him a flyer of the Iboinoshishi School in chapter 1. He asked a waitress who the man was, and she told him that Daniel was the regional lightweight boxing champion. Brian once again brought up the fact that he and his mother had gone to Mr. Parroda's house sometimes to have dinner. Yajirobe thought it was strange that such a man had been in the streets handing out flyers. Afterwards, upon encountering each other, Mark told Yajirobe that he was walking home from a karate class that his brother had been teaching.

At the start of chapter 5, Makare and Naigo prepared to assault the Iboinoshishi School. Naigo believed that having roughly two hundred thirty samurai would be enough to swarm the place, but Makare believed they would need at least seven hundred to overwhelm Elijah, Kumo, the students, and the attendants. Makare promised to get more money from Daniel in order to hire more samurai before assaulting the Iboinoshishi School, leaving Naigo in charge of the group while he was gone.

Later on, Elijah gave the seven-star Dragon Ball to Brian and instructed him and Yajirobe to run to Daniel's house and give it to him as well as tell the man that Elijah no longer required his services. The boys made haste towards the winery. Upon arriving there, they found it in ruins and on fire. Daniel's body, cut to pieces, was hanging out of a window. There was no sign of Mark.

In chapter 6, a flashback revealed what happened to Daniel in the previous chapter. In it, he was called up by Makare to discuss some matter in person. He feared that Makare had figured out that it had been him who had killed the solipsist monks. He woke up his brother Mark, who was sleeping at the time, preparing to move him from the house. Then, he took out his TACPAD. He could destroy the cave where Makare's Band was staying if he pressed a button, but he did not know if they were still in there or not. He was waiting on a message from Elijah for when to press the button.

Mark got up; Daniel told him to pack a bag and head for their house in the city. His little brother did not understand, but there was no time for Daniel to say anything more, as that was when Makare showed up. He threw his championship belt in Mark's bag before he left. As Makare kicked the back door in, Mark ran out the front door, back to Orange Star City.

The samurai was in a foul mood. He accused Daniel of paying the Red Ribbon Army to kill the solipsist monks, as Daniel was the only one rich enough to do so who knew about those monks. Then, he attacked Daniel, telling the man that he was no longer needed, as Makare now had enough samurai to storm Elijah's school. Daniel dodged the katana until Makare tripped on a power cord, ripping it to pieces, which cut out the lights and started a fire inside the house. Makare sliced open Daniel's chest, but the boxer was able to close the distance and land several good punches. Dropping the katana Makare fell to the floor. Daniel pinned him and raised the katana, prepared to kill Makare. But then the pain in his chest overwhelmed him and he hesitated. That was long enough for Makare to pull his knife out and stick it in Daniel's throat, killing him.

A Soundless Dark[]

In this story, Mr. Satan noted that he hasn't yet achieved the renown his brother Daniel had during his lifetime.
