Colonel Violet (バイオレット大佐, Baioretto Taisa) is a human who runs the Children of Chaos while simultaneously being employed by the Red Ribbon Army. Following the bandit wars in Diablo Desert, she and her crew swoop in to take over the badlands for their cocaine trade. She is a major character in Chasing Oblivion.

History[]

Three years before the start of Chasing Oblivion, Violet began dating Nathaniel, the mayor of South City. Despite being a member of the Red Ribbon Army, she formed her own military force, the Children of Chaos, shortly after, using Nathaniel to fund their cocaine running operations.

Chasing Oblivion[]

In chapter 1, Colonel Violet met with the mayor of South City in the bowels of the Children of Chaos' Yunzabit Heights research station. They proceeded to do cocaine together and discussed the Negative Utilitarianism League's motives and purpose. She also told him "Mazuchiru sends his regards", implying that he was the one who had sent them the package of cocaine. When she realized that the purpose of NUL was to kill every living person, she described them as sick, to which the mayor agreed. The two then got very high together; the mayor speculated that Violet had already been high when he had found her that day.

In chapter 3, the mayor noted that the Children of Chaos, who operated the Yunzabit Heights research facility, were loyal only to him and Violet. Later on, the mayor was informed by Sergeant Tyrian that Colonel Violet would not be able to visit him again for several weeks, due to ongoing operations with the Red Ribbon Army.

In chapter 5, as he thought about calling up Tao to catch the Yalung, the mayor of South City noted that there was not one person in the Yunzabit Heights research station, apart from Violet (and she was, of course not there at present) and Tao himself who was a liaison of the highest quality. Later on, as he was falling asleep, Nathaniel thought about how much he missed Violet, Yunwu, Tyrian, and Bobo.

In chapter 6, just as the mayor was fleeing the room with the Yalung, he saw Violet approaching from the distance, a rifle in her hand. After collapsing from his wounds, she reached him, her worried face getting burned into his fading vision.

In chapter 7, Colonel Violet was flown to the Diablo Desert with one twelve-man team of Children of Chaos that included her pilot, Shyrin, and Cassian. She ordered Shyrin and Cassian to be the only two to accompany her to Hasky's location, leaving the rest to cover them with sniper rifles. While preparing to exit the transport, she noticed how Shyrin slouched, while Cassian stood proudly, and wondered to herself what the mayor had seen in former.

As she entered the desert for the first time, she thought to herself that Yunwu had orchestrated a plan to wipe out the bandits throughout the desert, and thus she did not expect to come into contact with any. Using the coordinates Yunwu had sent to the mayor, she found Hasky sitting in her hovercar in the middle of the desert, reading a magazine. The woman confronted her as a member of the Red Ribbon Army. Hasky, however, did not care, as she worked for Yunwu, not the mayor, and awaited only her lady's response before proceeding on with her plan for the infinite energy device. Then, Hasky got a phone call from one of Yunwu's aides, confirming the deputy mayor's death. Hasky admitted that she had been ordered to take the infinite energy device somewhere (Bonetown) to detonate it. Violet did not want to allow her to do this, demanding the device.

When Hasky refused to hand it over, a fight broke out. The colonel spat her gum at Hasky, shooting it immediately after, causing the gum to explode, which forced Hasky to dive into her car. During the scuffle, Hasky's guards, a pair of snipers on the next dune over, shot Shyrin's brains all over Cassian. Violet shot back at both of them, killing them. Trying to comfort the emotional Cassian, she left herself open to a countering kick from Hasky. While that knocked her pistol away, she ripped the thief out of her car, throwing her to the ground where she kicked her hard in the ribs before placing her boot to Hasky's throat. Then she stated that she would not kill Hasky, as Commander Red considered her a useful ally. Cassian recovered the infinite energy device for Violet, and she remained true to her word, leaving Hasky in the desert.

Cassian told Violet that there were no settlements in the Diablo Desert, according to his recon, except for a tiny town known as Bonetown. She ordered him to set up their base of operations there and to do another sweep of the desert, which would root out the last remaining surviving bandits, if there were any. Then, she told her team that they were going to return to the mayor. Violet thought to herself that if the mayor was intending to use the infinite energy device to blow up South City, she would put a bullet in his brain before he could do it.

Some time later, while he was patching up their wounds, Doc told Wolfe's Wings that he had just gotten back from Bonetown, where the Children of Chaos had taken over. He told Wolfe that the Children of Chaos had taken out all of the other bandits in the desert. He also revealed that he had run into Rosey there. Rosey had wanted to come back with Doc, but before that could happen, he had been killed after he had gotten into an argument with a purple-haired woman in the Fire and Blood tavern.

Later on, she returned to the mayor, who was recuperating in Bonetown. There, she gave him the infinite energy device and told him of Yunwu's passing, causing an emotional response in the man. Violet told him that they needed to focus on the drug trade to several of the major cities that had been made possible by the Children of Chaos taking over the Diablo Desert. She asked him for more money to finance a bigger army in the desert, and he agreed to supply her with the funds. They decided to meet in a bar later that night to unwind.

Later on, the mayor noticed the corpse of Rosey, who had been killed by Violet in a scuffle in a bar earlier; the Children of Chaos had decapitated him and stuck his head on a pike. Shortly after getting drunk, the mayor returned to Violet's room, as she had not shown up at the bar at the expected time. He probed her about Gero's device again, asking about its explosive capabilities. This worried Violet; she told him that she would not allow him to detonate it, prompting him to rebuke her for questioning his judgment. They did some more drugs, and then the mayor was forced to hide in Violet's closet as she met with Koicharu Mazuchiru.

He informed her of Yunwu's death, though she barely feigned sympathy. He asked her who the mayor would replace her with, but Violet refused to give him a definitive answer. He also told her that Yunwu had promised him Diablo Desert, but Violet was not in a position to actually do that. She told him that he would be rewarded handsomely, but could not specify how. Mazuchiru once again told her that he wanted Diablo Desert, as he thought he had earned it through eradicating the entire region of bandits. Then, he departed. Violet, who was not used to the amount of liquor she had ingested, immediately collapsed on her bed, having fallen asleep.

In chapter 8, on the evening of the day the mayor of South City had shot a bar patron, Violet found him behind the hotel hitting baseballs into the desert. She alerted him that Mazuchiru was on his way to discuss becoming the new deputy mayor. The mayor grew irate at that, stating he would never allow Mazuchiru to become deputy mayor. He also told Violet that he was done with cocaine. She was unconvinced at his statement, prompting him to tell her that he would not allow shipments of snow into South City. Violet was able to convince him to allow shipments to go through, for it would make both of them rich, regardless of if he was done with the stuff personally.

He then asked her when Mazuchiru was arriving, and she told him within an hour or two, and that he would be bringing several associates with him with the hope of setting up base in Bonetown. He then asked her what she would think if everyone in the world died. Violet replied that she wouldn't care, as in that case, she would be dead and gone too. She then asked him what to do about Mazuchiru. The mayor demanded that she gather up the Children of Chaos and ready them to meet with Mazuchiru in the main street, with the whole town as their witness. He pulled the infinite energy device out of his pocket and told her that it was going to be their ticket to happiness. Disturbed by this, Violet asked the man if he loved her, and he swore that he did, kissing her.

Later, when Mazuchiru and his forces arrived, Violet and her men met them on the outskirts of Bonetown, where she demanded that if the yakuza wanted to enter they leave their weapons in their hovercars. This outraged Mazuchiru, although Violet allowed his yakuza to unload his supplies and slaves while they waited for the mayor to appear. She ordered Cassian and the rest of her soldiers to inspect Mazuchiru's men, making sure none of them were carrying weapons, but they were unable to complete this check before the mayor showed up.

Contradicting Violet, Nathaniel told the groups that they would discuss the terms of their partnership right there in the open, not inside the hotel. Then, he insulted Mazuchiru, causing the yakuza boss to open fire, hitting him. The Children of Chaos retaliated, and so did Mazuchiru's men, causing a huge firefight to erupt between the groups. The Chàoxing Gon were significantly outnumbered, and thus the battle soon turned against them. Mazuchiru himself was forced to flee, though Violet shot him three times - twice in the arm, and once in the side, below the kidney. His men swarmed around him to protect him, eventually loading him into a hovercar to flee. Indeed, only Mazuchiru and his driver of the Chàoxing Gon were able to flee that day, with the rest of his entourage being butchered by the Children of Chaos.

After the battle was over, the Children of Chaos carried the mayor back to the hotel where medics were waiting to try to save him. Violet ordered them to save him at any cost, though she left the hotel soon after so they could get to work. Thereafter, she wandered through the carnage in Bonetown, stealing sideways glances at Cassian until Commander Red sent Violet a message stating that the Red Ribbon Army would be starting a world-wide search for the seven Dragon Balls the next day. She would be required to show up to their base at 5 a.m. sharp. She almost laughed at how unlucky her day had gone.

After Yamcha knocked out the mayor, who had fled from his surgery down the main road of Bonetown, by throwing his baseball at his face, Violet rushed the boy, confronting him about what he had done. She shot the baseball out of his hand, causing the boy to nearly burst into tears. Then, the mayor convulsed and screamed from the ground, which distracted her. While Yamcha looked for a weapon, however, a surviving yakuza, who looked to be near death himself, stumbled from around the corner of a building, and shot at Violet, hitting her once in the shoulder, dropping her. Medics and more Children of Chaos were rushing towards the mayor, and they soon killed the last living yakuza, saving Violet.

Some time afterwards, she and Nathaniel were taken to the South City hospital to recuperate. As she was suffering only from gunshot wounds, Violet was able to recover faster (especially with all the cocaine she was doing). She told the Red Ribbon Army that she would meet up with them soon, but did not depart for their base, instead calling up Cassian to ask about Nathaniel. Her captain revealed that a nurse had told him that the mayor was in stable, but critical condition.

She flew on a Red Ribbon Army helicopter to the hospital, where she met with Cassian outside Nathaniel's room. He and his guards were stationed across the entire floor. She went inside to see Nathaniel alone. He was suffering badly, asking for more morphine or cocaine to ease the pain. She reminded him that he quit the stuff, so she couldn't give him any. Then, the two had a short conversation about the nature of life and death, with Nathaniel ranting about how reality is already the afterlife, and how it is a suffering from the infinitude of before.

As he was going on about his nonsense, Violet loaded her pistol with a black talon bullet. He goaded her on, as if knowing what she was going to do, asking her to use the infinite energy device. Instead, she turned to face, told him she loved him, and shot him dead. Cassian burst into the room soon after, but Violet merely fell into his arms, kissing him, and begging him to take her home.

Days later, Hasky found Violet getting high off cocaine alone in her room in an undisclosed location. She demanded the infinite energy device from the woman, but Violet was too high to really know what was going on. She tried to goad Hasky into shooting her. The thief needed to find the device quickly, as her client was supposedly leaving the country in three hours. When she eventually spotted the device sitting on a table behind Violet, she left the Red Ribbon Army officer lying on the floor, grabbed the device, and left, but not before leaving Violet with a warning that she and her Children of Chaos would soon be buried in the desert by some unknown force.

Down the Well-Worn Road[]

In this story, Elijah journeyed to Minamogi's hideout in order to retrieve a katana the man had stolen. Once inside, Elijah found Minamogi conversing with Colonel Violet. They were negotiating a price for cocaine, with the false samurai arguing that he should only have to pay Ƶ30,000,000. Violet wanted Ƶ50,000,000. When Minamogi refused to pay more than he had last time, he drew the stolen katana, Chill of Midnight, and pointed it at her. She whistled for back-up, but when her soldiers didn't appear (having been stealthily killed by Elijah moments prior), she grew worried. Minamogi's men goaded him into attacking her.

However, at that moment, Elijah appeared. Thinking the man was one of Minamogi's underlings, Violet bolted, fleeing from the cave. After Elijah killed Minamogi and his bandits, Violet reappeared and seeing what had happened shot him three times - once in the shoulder, once in the belly, and once in the neck (though that one merely grazed him). She ran off, leaving him to die.
