Bulma (ブルマ, Buruma) is a human native to West City. The daughter of Dr. Brief and the wife of Vegeta, she's the current leader of Capsule Corp., serving as the Z Fighters' most important support member. She is featured as a secondary character in the West City Saga of Dragon Ball: Heart of the Dragon.

History[]

Tail Don't Lie[]

In the first scene of this story, Bulma was in the middle of a dream. Her father was driving her, her sister Tights, and their mother through a bumpy mountain pass. Her parents were shit-talking some reality show bimbo while Tights read aloud from a fairy tale book. The dream-memory morphed into another on Namek: Vegeta demanding Krillin hand over the Namekian Dragon Ball and mentioning Bulma for the first time. Zarbon landed and began to fight Vegeta. The scene briefly switched to an older memory, during the General Blue Saga, when Krillin sniffed the diamond as they flew back to Kame House. She slapped him, bringing the scene back to Namek.

Zarbon was losing against Vegeta, who had turned into a Great Ape. Tights was still there, somehow, reading from the book. Bulma remembered when he had transformed at Pilaf's Castle and urged Krillin to flee. The bald man was frozen in fear. When the Great Ape locked his gaze upon her, she began to lose concentration and slip out of the dream, but only for a moment. Vegeta's voice brought her back into the dream. He mentioned her again to Krillin, and Bulma felt the urge to squeeze her legs together.

Her dream returned to the car. Tights asked her sister if she liked the story. Her mother complimented Vegeta's tenacity and looks, while her father questioned if the man was good at doing anything but beating people up. Blinking again, Bulma returned to Namek. Krillin begged her to make a run for it. Vegeta punched a hole through Zarbon's armor; blood ran down his forearm. He gleefully boasted about his Saiyan prowess. Krillin noted that Vegeta was just like Goku. Once more the dream began to spin out of control, but she held on, if barely.

The scene switched back to the car. Her mother and sister had vanished. Her father stopped the car just below the top of the next hill. He asked her if she wanted to go further. She didn't understand why he couldn't come with her. As her father exhaled a puff of smoke, his head morphed into a pterodactyl’s.

She fled up the road screaming to Goku's house. There she found Vegeta with his fist still lodged deep in Zarbon's stomach. Blood was dripping down his arm. The scene switched into Bulma's portable house, where she was teaching Goku what a bath was. The scene morphed into Vegeta calling her a servant woman and asking her for a drying cloth. The shower door opened and he came out, naked, approaching her, his tail uncurling from behind him. Mixing this fantasy with an old memory of learning about Goku's tail, Bulma squeezed it, and he grunted in pain. His tail took the shower scrubber from her hands and began washing his back with it. Bulma fell over, and in horror, realized the tail was real. He folded his arms, scowling at her, but when she felt a brush of fur across her cheek, Bulma gasped and lost the dream.

In the second scene, Bulma awoke with a start. She noticed the lights were on inside the Capsule Corp. space machine (where Vegeta was) outside. She scoffed at his lunkheadedness. She made coffee and prepared a bath, then returned to her room with a towel, noticing a half-empty bottle of Midori on her desk. Its color reminded her of Namek's skies, and in that instant, she recalled the dream that had woken her up. Bulma grabbed the little black bag at the back of her panty drawer and then raced to her bath with newfound urgency.

He's a Baaad Man[]

Near the beginning of this story, in the early morning when Vegeta returned from his training to his room in Capsule Corp., he heard Bulma enter her own room not long after. Later, when Vegeta came out to the kitchen to get lunch, Bulma was in there, eating. She took her plate, scowling, and left. Mrs. Brief told him that she was in a foul mood because she had broken up with Yamcha the previous night.

When Vegeta came back inside from his training session in the evening, he found Bulma in the living room looking through a photo album. She commented on his stench and he replied with a snide comment. She told him that he should not be training, but resting so that his body could heal up, but he replied that he took orders from no one and marched out of the room.

The next day during the evening, Bulma returned home with a bag of groceries. She told the Saiyan to not power up on her lawn, or she would kick him out. He told her that he did not take orders from servant women, but nonetheless did not power up. She called him rude and went inside. He followed her in. While she went to the kitchen, he made way to the shower, thinking she was a strange creature.

When he finished cleaning himself and came out of the shower, he noticed that Bulma was in the bathroom. She said she was looking for something she had left in her other shorts; he was embarrassed that she had walked in on him. She remarked that she wasn't going to see anything she hadn't seen before and gave him a kiss on the cheek, which flustered him greatly. Bulma said that when Vegeta first came to live at Capsule Corp., he had called her his servant woman. She had never thought he was evil like everyone else, just a little rude. She told him that the pink shirt she had given him had been the shirt her father had worn on his first date with Mrs. Brief. Bulma walked out.

He dried off and then left the bathroom, finding her in the hallway looking at a hanging picture. She told him that she felt so useless, as everyone was training for the Androids and she could do little to help. Bulma said that when she had been little, she and her sister Tights had often read stories about handsome knights saving beautiful princesses from horrible monsters and evil men. She always thought she would marry a man like that, as did her sister. Vegeta stepped forward, taking Bulma in his arms. He leaned in and kissed her, and she kissed him back, making him forget about his struggle to become a Super Saiyan, at least for a moment.

In Search of Pork Buns[]

In the first scene of this story, after Bulma left Capsule Corp. to deliver the android shutdown device to the Z Fighters and Dr. Brief put baby Trunks down for a nap, Yajirobe finished his lunch. He watched Cell terrorizing people on a southern island on TV. He knew that Bulma would want him to join the Z Fighters in fighting Cell, but Yajirobe wouldn't do it. Deciding to leave, Yajirobe found a letter addressed to him taped to the back door. It contained a capsule with a hovercar inside and a thank-you note from Bulma for taking care of Trunks. Yajirobe wasn't much of a reader, so he threw the letter away.

The Perfect Lifeform[]

In this chapter, Bulma noted that Android 21 was an energy absorption android, like Androids 19 and 20. She found him very close to completion - his body frame had been completed (though no skin had been added yet), and he was wearing a white kimono with gold lacing, black boots with tall white socks, and white wrist and forearm tape. She also observed that Android 21 had been given a black bandanna with the Red Ribbon Army's logo on it, but she removed that. Bulma noted that Android 21 had black hair and blue eyes and blue glass-like ports in the centers of his palms, obviously to be used for energy absorption.

Later, Bulma noted that after Cell had been defeated, she took a trip to Dr. Gero's laboratory. She went there because she was curious how Dr. Gero had been creating such advanced, powerful androids. She noted that since Goku and his friends had destroyed much of the lab, it was difficult to navigate and find information about the androids (for Gero's supercomputer had been mostly destroyed). Still, Bulma was able to crack open Gero's supercomputer and extract a few bits of information out of it. She learned from that information that Dr. Gero had been planning on taking another android with him and Android 19 to South City. There was no information in the supercomputer as to why Android 21 did not manage to go with them, however. Bulma guessed it was due to Gero's impatience.

She then noticed that Android 21 had been kept in a containment tube since Gero left for South City, much like Androids 16, 17, and 18 had been. He had been placed on the basement floor of the lab, however, far removed from the three aforementioned androids. This actually helped Android 21 remain mostly undamaged when the lab was destroyed, for the lower levels of the building did not get damaged as much as the upper levels. After finding Android 21, Bulma put him in a capsule to take back to Capsule Corp. to study.

Later, when Bulma was investigating Android 22, she learned that Dr. Gero had abandoned Android 21 after coming up with a new theory of android power hybridization (one that he first tried out with Android 22). Bulma also stated in the Android 22 report that Dr. Gero's supercomputer listed Androids 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 as operational. Later in this chapter, Bulma noted that Android 22 was a dual-type android that had an infinite energy base but could also absorb energy like Androids 19, 20, and 21. Bulma observed that Android 22 had dirty blond hair in a faux hawk, green eyes, light skin, and a clean, clear face. His features were notably more developed than Android 21's, and he looked human-like. Bulma mentioned that Android 22 wore a black and white suit with a white tie, black dress shoes, sunglasses, and a red arm band with the Red Ribbon Army logo on it. She also noted that Android 22 had pink glass-like ports on his palms, obviously to be used for energy absorption.

Later in this chapter, Bulma noted that Dr. Gero's supercomputer listed Androids 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 as operational (of course, Bulma and the rest of the Z Fighters would have been well-aware of what actually happened to Androids 17 and 18 after the events of the Cell Saga, and she knew that Androids 16, 19, and 20 were actually destroyed by this point). This information helped her find the latter three androids, including Android 22. However, Bulma was unable to find any trace of Android 14 in this chapter. She found Androids 21, 22, and 23 together in the basement of Gero's lab, far removed from the worst destruction of the lab. This helped explain why Androids 21 and 22 survived the lab's destruction.

Bulma was surprised to find that, out of the three androids, Android 22 was the most completed of the bunch. She learned from Gero's supercomputer that Dr. Gero had abandoned Android 21 halfway through creation after coming up with a new theory of android power hybridization (one that he first tried out with Android 22). However, Bulma learned that Gero had been unable to activate the android's AI, because its conflicting power sources had scrambled any AI he had tried putting into the android's shell. This had forced Gero to abandon Android 22 not long before his death.

Bulma was intrigued by this, so she put Android 22 in a capsule to take back to Capsule corp to study. She thought that maybe she could activate Android 22 and thought that once he was fully operational, perhaps Android 22 could join the Z Fighters and help Goku and the others protect Earth in the future.

Later in this chapter, Android 23 was the last android that Bulma found. She noted that Android 23 was modeled to be a duel-type android, like Android 22. However, Android 23's appearance was a mere skeletal frame, showing that Gero had not managed to complete it before his death. When Gero's lab was destroyed, Android 23 was caught up in that destruction, and much of the android's body was damaged or destroyed as well. Bulma observed that his containment tube had been cracked open and it looked like he had been on fire at one point. Bulma decided not to take Android 23 back to Capsule Corp. with her because he was basically just a burnt heap of scrap metal by the time of this chapter. She also thought that it was a shame that the android had been completely destroyed when Gero's lab had been destroyed. The world, and Bulma, thus was never able to behold the full extent of Gero's capabilities.

Dragon Ball Z: The Forgotten[]

Planet Earth Saga[]

In the fifth chapter of this saga, Bulma ran into Ledas stealing a Gravity chamber from Dr. Brief. She noticed his tail and offered to send Vegeta after him. Her father didn't want to cause any trouble. After Ledas left with the capsule, Bulma returned, telling her father that Vegeta would retrieve it for him, which Dr. Brief wasn't happy about.

Fulfillment Saga[]

Bulma was seen in one of the final scenes of this saga as she observed Ledas, Ryori, and Vegeta pig out in Capsule Corp., showing obvious disgust at their lack of manners.

Dragon Ball: Heart of the Dragon[]

West City Saga[]

On May 29, Age 774, Ledas and Jia visited Bulma at Capsule Corp. Bulma offered them a few CLEAN-BOT 1000s in exchange for Ledas giving her a hand in her lab. The boy begrudgingly accepted after Jia reminded him that he'd otherwise have to clean the bathrooms himself. Ledas then suffered through many hours of tedious lab work with Bulma.

On May 31st, Vegeta and Ledas gorged on bowls of instant ramen with Bulma in Capsule Corp. Ledas showed Bulma his near-empty bottle of Saibaman revival juice, humbly requesting her to duplicate the liquid. She agreed so long as he promised to help her in the lab again. Bulma found it funny that Ledas could tolerate spice while Vegeta could not. Ledas explained that his spice tolerance had come from his time on Planet Cooler 92. Vegeta boasted that he could tolerate more spice than Ledas, but neither the boy nor his wife believed him, finding this hilarious.

On June 4th, Ledas woke up early. He turned the gravity training unit into a capsule before flying off to Capsule Corp. There, Bulma was waiting on the lawn dressed up in a space suit. Ledas complained about having to wake up so early, but Bulma told him to stop whining. She remarked that the planet they were going to was one Vegeta had visited years prior in his search for Goku (after the Frieza Saga). They entered the gravity training unit, Bulma piloting, and left Earth soon afterward. By the time they were free of the atmosphere, Ledas had already fallen asleep in his chair.

Bulma installed an artificial intelligence, Theodosius, into the computer to pilot for her. Theo indicated that the ship's fuel reserves were sufficient to reach their destination and set them off on their journey.

Some fifteen hours later, Bulma and Ledas arrived on Planet Frieza 173. They entered the damaged outpost, Ledas creating an energy blast to light the way. Bulma was nervous. The Saiyan told her that he couldn't sense anyone around and assumed it was deserted, although Joleans (a common species of space pirates) could suppress their energy, so he couldn't be certain. Bulma yelled at him for scaring her.

They reached the outpost's mess hall. In there, Bulma heard something moving about, but Ledas couldn't sense anything. The boy fired an energy blast into the air to illuminate the room. A horde of space rats, squealing in terror, rushed them from the other side of the room. Bulma ran up a pole to avoid them while Ledas rose into the air. Dramatically ranting, Bulma swung back and forth on the pole before falling off. Ledas caught her, disintegrating the space rats before returning her to the ground. Reaching a door on the other side of the room, Bulma was accosted by a bat-like creature that got tangled in her hair and threw up on her. Ledas got rid of it with a finger beam. Seething, Bulma grumbled at Ledas not to laugh (he tried his best).

They entered a corridor, soon coming across a locked door. Ledas blasted it to ash. The skeleton of an alien (of the same species as Appule) fell out, landing on Bulma. Screaming, she cast it aside. Ledas plucked up the skull, admiring it, noting that he had always thought the back part of those aliens' heads was an air sack, not bone. Bulma began to rant, but Ledas calmed her down by pointing out that the next room was the med-bay.

Three rejuvenation tanks took up the middle of the room. Ledas created another ki ball for light. Bulma wondered if they were still operational, asking Ledas to check. He knew how, revealing that when he had been a slave on Planet Cooler 92, the rejuvenation tank had been his guardian angel. Bulma expressed sympathy for his past. Ledas admitted it had made him stronger to go through that. He had no regrets. With a few button presses, he activated the tanks, impressing Bulma. The camera on her suit recorded her point-of-view as she documented the tanks' construction.

In the afternoon of June 5th, Ledas' gravity training unit touched down in the backyard of Capsule Corp. Bulma and Ledas exited the ship, Bulma stating that it'd take her a while to create a duplicate rejuvenation tank.

In the wee hours of June 8thLedas, Bulma, and Vegeta hung out in Capsule Corp., discussing Nappa and Vegeta's attack on Earth. Vegeta revealed he had killed Nappa himself after the man had disgraced himself in battle against Goku. Bulma found a news report of the attack online. Seeing him lying dead in a crater, Vegeta mocked Yamcha for dying to a Saibaman, goading Bulma. She wasn't in the mood for a fight. Ledas told them he was learning about the four species-ending disasters in school. Bulma wondered if the kids would notice Vegeta fighting with the Z Fighters against Cell, but Ledas didn't think it was an issue, as the humans weren't very smart when it came to fighting. Bulma mentioned that Vegeta had grown more mellow since Buu's defeat. Vegeta admitted Goku was stronger than him and while he would one day become the strongest again, he had to set realistic expectations for himself, lest he go mad.

Watching Tien fight Nappa, Vegeta said he wanted to see the moment Chiaotzu had blown himself up, as it always made him laugh. Ledas wondered if there was footage of Yajirobe cutting off his tail. Vegeta hated Yajirobe. Ledas found it funny he hadn't been able to punch the samurai to death, but Vegeta had been too tired at the time.

Ledas and Vegeta then sparred in the gravity chamber for a while. Later, Ledas and Bulma watched television in the living room. The boy was covered in bandages. Bulma thought his wrist was broken and wanted him to spend the night in her med-bay. Ledas couldn't, as he had school in the morning. He asked her to finish the rejuvenation tank as soon as possible. He considered using the senzu bean in his pocket, but dismissed the possibility, as he needed to save it for an emergency. He thanked Bulma for offering to treat him in the med-bay, then left, struggling somewhat to fly home.

On June 15th, Bulma showed up at Ryori and Ledas' house with the rejuvenation tank. She wanted to install it on Ledas' gravity training unit. Jia told her the boys weren't home, but she could put the tank in anyway, inviting her inside. Bulma was happy to see Jia was still using the CLEAN-BOTs. They moved to the backyard, entering the gravity training unit. Bulma thought Ledas would want to enter the rejuvenation tank as soon as possible so he could resume his training. Jia confessed she didn't properly understand him, asking Bulma for advice. She wondered why he needed to train so much. Bulma told her about the Saiyans' competitive warrior spirit. Easing Jia's anxiety, she told her Goku, Vegeta, Ledas, and the others were good people and would protect the Earth from outside threats. Bulma was impressed that Jia could handle raising a Saiyan, as in her experience, they were quite a handful (stubborn and voracious, for the most part). They agreed to have lunch together next week to continue their discussion. Bulma then began installing the rejuvenation tank, showing Jia how it worked.

On July 19th, Vegeta and Ledas made their way to the Capsule Corp. backyard so that Vegeta could show him Super Saiyan 3. Bikini watered her flowers while Jia and Bulma had lunch together.

A Quest for Booty[]

In the second scene of chapter 3, Bulma had just repaired the Dragon Radar Ledas and Ryori had been using when Jaco's space ship landed on her lawn. The alien told her that he was tracking a wanted space criminal who had come to Earth. At the mention of a space pirate, Ledas shot over to them (he must have been nearby) and demanded to fight the rogue warrior. Bulma gave him the Dragon Radar, while Jaco seemed not to believe that the boy could handle a space pirate.

Ledas sensed for the pirate and after a few moments of concentrating, pinpointed his location in the far north of the world. He asked Jaco what the guy did to make him chase him all the way to Earth. Jaco refused to answer that question. Ledas told him that he was far stronger than the power level he sensed in the north, so Jaco allowed the boy to become his sidekick in his mission to hunt down Paprikan. Ledas didn't like being reduced to such a role, but nevertheless joined Jaco on his mission. He grabbed the alien by the wrist and shot off into the sky, telling him that a fat old man with a sailor's cap had once told him that words are wind, so they should be too.

Dragon Ball: Cold Vengeance[]

In chapter 9, Cuber, Chaiva, Ledas, and Baochoi arrived on Earth, landing in West City in front of Capsule Corp. Ledas introduced the Saiyans to Bulma, explaining to her that they needed her Dragon Radar to collect the Dragon Balls. As she was getting ready to eat dinner, however, the Saiyans could not refuse joining her for their non-Mrovian meal in a while (and the first ever for Baochoi). Feasting inside, they were met by Vegeta, who had just finished his evening training session. Ledas introduced Cuber and Chaiva to the prince, explaining why they were there and who they were. Vegeta recognized Cuber as being one of the Super Elites on Priyep's team. They told him that Nappa's son had turned on them, forcing them to kill him, a fact that Ledas didn't know either. Then, Vegeta challenged the pair to a duel. Bulma asked them to take their fight outside of the city, which the Saiyans agreed to do.

In chapter 10, after the Saiyans finished their fight and returned to Capsule Corp., Bulma and Trunks greeted them. Bulma promised to give them the Dragon Radar in the morning, saying it was too late now to go looking for the Dragon Balls. She provided rooms for Chaiva, Cuber, and Baochoi to sleep in.

In chapter 11, after he made his wishes, Cuber returned the Dragon Radar to Bulma and thanked her. They went to see Chaiva and Baochoi, who were training with Vegeta, Trunks, and Ledas in the gravity chamber. When the Cuber and Baochoi state they are going to return to Mrov, Trunks makes a snide comment at Baochoi, causing Bulma to smack him. Bulma said goodbye to the Saiyans before they left.
