Dear Samuel,

I am writing you from the battlefield. General White has led us into some place called Bobobo village. I'm currently sitting in a mud puddle listening to explosions going off. Even though they aren't too close, they are so loud! My ears have been ringing ever since I got here. But since I'm an officer, I don't have to fight on the front lines if I don't want to. I can sit back and direct my team from the radio. This place is miserable. It's hot and humid and there are mosquitoes everywhere. My uniform is covered in mud, and don't even get me started on the condition of my shoes. It's a wretched, savage place, and I am not fond of it. I don't know how the people here manage to live in such a terrible place! I wouldn't be able to last one day if I was here on holiday. Anyway, I hope you are doing well. Once the fighting is over, I should be coming home.

Love, Lukas

Dear Samuel,

Time is flying by! It's been a few months since I've written you, Sammy. General White has been pushing us hard to finish this mission, so I haven't had much time to talk. The Red Ribbon Army is currently winning the war as far as I know. The explosions are much further away than they were last time I spoke to you. As far as I know, the people we are fighting are some sort of rival mercenary group to the Red Ribbon Army. I think their leader even knew Commander Red when they were children! I'm not sure though. I don't like to ask a lot of questions. But once we drive our foes back, General White has promised to let us return home. Hope all is well at home and school is going well.

Love, Lukas

Dear Samuel,

I was shot three days ago by the enemy. It is nothing serious - just a nick in my arm. The doctors have told me I will live. But they had to put me into surgery to get the bullet out. General White has ordered me to stay in bed since I got out of surgery, and I have been doing nothing except listening to our radio chatter and watching the mosquitoes fly around the lights. The hospital bed they have me in is so uncomfortable too. I can't wait to return home and sleep in my old bed again. I think I have a fever, but it could just be the heat. I might be going insane. I've counted the number of cracks in the ceiling a hundred times. Anyways, as far as I know, our side is still winning, but it's taking longer than expected. General White is getting pretty angry about it. I saw him break a soldier's nose yesterday outside of my window. I think he just wants to bomb the whole jungle and get it over with. I would love that to happen, but I don't think it will. General White doesn't have enough planes or bombs left to do an effective sweep. I think we're going to have to do this the old fashioned way. Anyways, I need to get some sleep. I hope you are doing better than I am, Sammy. Stay safe.

Love, Lukas

Dear Lukas,

I know you won't see this postcard until you return from your mission, but I just wanted to write to you to tell you that we are all rooting for you (even mom, I swear). I'm very proud of you Lukas. I wish I could grow up to be as strong and brave as you are some day. Please stay safe out there and come home soon.

Sincerely, Sammy

Dear Samuel,

It's been a long, harrowing battle, but today General White accepted the surrender of our enemy. I have healed since I last wrote you, so I was back on the battlefield. I led my team in a flanking maneuver behind the enemy. We were able to take their leader captive and force the end of the war. General White seemed impressed by my leadership abilities. He called me 'daring' and 'bright', but I think he was just relieved the war is finally over. He's putting me in for a promotion soon. I will be on the first train back home as soon as I have packed my things. See you soon, Sammy.

Love, Lukas
