Plot[]
The Afterlife Tournament begins after a beautiful ceremony commemorating some of the greatest warriors to ever participate in the event, broadcasting the footage from Goku's fight with Pikkon from years back during the Otherworld Tournament Saga in Dragon Ball Z. The Fighters then test their strength on a somewhat enhanced version of the Punching Machine that tournaments taking place on Earth use, using the machine to determine the best 128 fighters by their punching strength before those 128 fighters are split into 16 different preliminary sections to face off for a spot in the actual tournament, which only winners of their selected section would enjoy. After some tinkering on Uub's part after Goku's begging, the finalists are chosen and the tournament comes to an official start for the public eye.
One by one, the contestants face off against one another and eliminate their fellow warriors from the chance at sweet victory, with the four semi-finalists happening to be Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Future Trunks. After two exciting and suspenseful semi-final matches where the elderly Saiyans take on the other's son in battle, after a close miss by Goku accidentally stepping out of bounds, Vegeta and Future Trunks partake in the final battle to decide who would be named the Champion of the Living and Dead. Future Trunks narrowly comes out with the win over his father, but before he could be announced the victor and celebrate his victory, a strange being manifested from pure evil and all things evil from the depths of Hell reveals itself to the Saiyans.
